I'm looking at buying a CM .40 and was wondering what I can expect with the pistol as far as recoil?
I have a CW .40 so I know the recoil on that but wanted to hear other opinions on it this smaller pistol.
I'm still considering a CM 9.

I own a cm40 and love it but it does.bark depending on hand size it could be hard to hold on to it is a handcannon its only a half n inch difference in the grip and barrel so if ur good and like the cw 40.then then the cm shouldent be much to different but of course just one mans oppinion follow up shots are a little harder ammo a lil more expensive then the 9 but u could use ur cw mags in the cm so theres a plus enywho down to it everyone is ganna have a different oppinon to me the cm is not to bad to others its to much so.do what ur heart tells you

We started with a CW40 and replaced it with a PM40 (same size as the CM40). My wife liked shooting the CW40, but does not enjoy the PM40. She can handle the PM40's recoil and shoots it well, but the smaller grip is not pleasant at the range.
Whatever . . . a CW40 will not fit in my pockets, so ours has gone to another happy shooter. Good for him.
Disclaimer: I am not recoil sensitive and not particularly concerned about the speed of follow-up shots. If you are, get the 9mm.

PORT THE FOKKER and then enjoy a 40 cal like u should.
disclaimer: I also am not recoil sensitive, but I am very sensitive to towell heads and muzzy's praying in my back yard. Just sayin:behindsofa:

Well that's about the smallest, lightest gun you could choose. You already know what .40 feels like. Can you handle a little more? :p
P.s. My wife says I'm insensitive.

No one can tell what's right for you, but you. Beg, borrow, or rent one and see for yourself how you like it. After you've made your choice shoot it like you stole it.

I love my PM40 I do not find the recoil bad at all compared to a small revolver. My daughter shoots it well but really prefers to shoot my PPS Walther 40.

For me recoil is something I get used to. If I am shooting my mk40 & go to my mk9 the 9 feels noticeably lighter. I use a glove for my scandium j frame 357 but don't need one for my scandium N frame S&W 3inch 44 mag because there is more to hold on to. The grip makes a difference in felt recoil but IMO the 40 is snappy but not harsh. Around here 9mm & 40 are available & reasonably priced so its just a matter of what I want to carry.

The 40 is too much for some. The PM40 is my primary carry and I compete with a 40. I enjoy shooting and reloading for the 40, because I can customize my ammo to make it puffy like a 9. It is a good versatile cal. Everyone is different. I would think the CW40 would be comfortable to shoot. Try one before you buy.

Good advice guys, thanks. I'm going to see if I can to rent the CM 9 and .40 and shoot them first, we have gun stores all over the place so shouldn't be an issue. I'm leaning towards the .40, I think like garyb with the .40 but we'll see how they shoot and which one feels best.

I am gonna have to object to that comment PUFFY LIKE A 9:7:
but for once he does have one good point. TRY BEFORE U BUY. My 21 cenbts is that thereis nuttin wrong with a jj40 cal, it is hot, by design, and if ur not gonna shoot the piss out of it other than reliability etc, then indeed the 40 cal is a great personal protection gun. recoil is in the eyes of the b eholder, although most all will say it is a hot puppy to shoot kand in a small as kahr, even more.
I am snowed i here garyb and not in a good mood and this puffy thing is making me up my meds more today:Amflag2: Just sayin

garyb, u are one of the very few on this forum who seems to handle the kahr 40 with ease, I have never shot a PM or cm40 nor do I really desire to. My little Pu$$y 9 is enough for this ol man. I would have to port any kahr 40 that is for sure. Cou78rse I have my lawn mower mufflers ported to, so I love ported sh!t.

Love my CM40! To me, it's more enjoyable to shoot than my Glock 23. If you can handle the CW, you can handle the CM.

LOL Jocko. I guess what you are saying is that you can't know what you don't know then. There are tons of folks out there who reload and have shot the 40 and really do enjoy and shoot it well. It is a very popular cal Jocko. I don't know if you reload, but you can actually down load a 40 to be very puffy. I would never say the 9 is a pu$$y load. I actually like the 9 too. All I am saying is that the 40 can be down loaded to cross over to feel (as far as muzzle flip or recoil) comparable to or even below the hot 9's that are out there. The 40 is a very versatile cal once you start loading and shooting it. The 40 can be made to be very hot....or NOT. I hope you don't feel that I am putting down either cal. Both are very good cals. I don't like to get into cal bashing. I merely used the 9 as a reference to compare puffy reloads of the 40 to standard or hot 9 loads...from a reloading perspective. That said, I'd imagine that the 9 could also be down loaded too. I don't reload for the 9 right now...because ammo is relatively cheap (compared to the 40), but it would be fun to experiment with light range loads on the 9 too. Again, both are good cals. Just trying to give the OP another perspective about his selection of the 40, by showing that he has other options via reloading. Hope you understand Jocko.

Shoot what you like and shoot well. My first semi handgun was a 40. Sold it a long time ago, now I'm strictly a 9 & 45 guy. Like both better. It's all personal preference, all are fine calibers.

I went with the CM .40. I ordered it online from Kyle's Gun Shop, they had a great price on it and great service. He answered all of my questions quickly and shipped it within a day. I got it from them for $339 with free shipping and the FFL it's going to in my state only charges $25 and no sales tax on the actual pistol. So I'm looking at around $364-$365 out the door with it. Saved me $62 by getting it from them. Would've cost me $427 out the door from the actual FFL I'm getting it sent to.
Should be here this week. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot it this week and give a report on it.

Glad to hear it HAP.... Very good price for that pistol....Do read all the stickies and do the fluff & buff cleaning and new Kahr preparation stuff for a good first time range visit to break her in....I like my PM40 pretty well and can shoot it ok but I will say that after 20-30 rounds I'm ready to put it down and shoot something else...
I'm not that recoil sensitive but it will put a whoopin on your trigger and middle finger from the trigger guard and if yours is like mine you don't want to be standing behind it when someone else shoots it because it doesn't just eject brass it hurls it almost straight back and I hear it pinging off the far back wall of my range all the time.....I've never had another semi auto that ejects brass with such velocity, you can draw blood from the flying brass if you stand too close....
Good luck with yours and let us know how it goes!

Here's the range report.
I was able to put 50 rounds of Speer Lawman through the new CM .40 today at the ranch and it performed flawlessly. Not one hitch.
The recoil seems to be less than my CW .40 for some reason and not bad at all.
This is my 3rd Kahr pistol that I own and I must say its on track to be my favorite Kahr.

I just got back from the range with my new CM40 and am very happy with the gun. It is a hand cannon, when it goes bang you know it. My only issue is the long trigger pull, but with a little more practice it won't be an issue. Today I put 100 or so rounds down range with it and by the end of the session I was starting to get some fairly decent groups.
Congrats, 12bar. The fun is in practicing. Keep on shootin'.
BTW, welcome.

I prefer to shoot my PM40 over my PM9. Love the feel of the recoil, actually. In just 4 trips to the range with it, I fired 740 rounds. Maybe the nerves in my hand are just dead, lol...
