I totally understand the importance of reliability and it's a significant factor in how I judge firearms. However I'm not sure I understand the hullabaloo around durability. I own no gun that is in any danger of wearing out.....ever. Am I normal? :o

If your one of those people who shoot 15,000 rds. a year, it could be a concern. Gun wearing out, or parts of gun wearing out?

Man, to shoot that much you would need to use the gun to rob a bank or something just to pay for the ammo. If you could find that much ammo.
Or maybe be one of those sponsored professional shooters or something.

Gun wearing out. Parts break and you fix them. No biggie. I guess I shoot the trap gun most but nowhere near that count. Should last a lifetime with reasonable care. That's kinda what I was thinking. I buy a gun with the thought that I may just keep it forever.

It depends on the gun. Some cheap pot metal piece of crap could have a major melt down in as few as a few 100 rounds. Most well made handguns will last a lifetime.

Heck, 15,000 rounds a year? I'm afraid even with my retirement, I couldn't afford to do that unless I spent all my time picking up range brass and reloading.
Maybe that's why I own 30 + handguns, so I can rotate them.

Beware of the man who own but one gun. He knows how to use it.

To be able to shoot 15,000 rounds per year, you would probably have to work for a high security agency for the feds. Something like Housing and Urban Development or the Post Office. They are purchasing a bunch of guns and ammunition, for "practice."

Sorry, B4...I'm usually posting from my Piece-of-Crapberry phone...and I don't have all the smiley codes memorized. The version of Tapatalk I'm using doesn't support the smilies, so you have to type the code instead of clicking on something. <Sigh>
lets see...
15000 devided by 52 weeks is just under 300 rds a week. Thats do-able on any competiive level

I normally run about 1500 rounds through a new gun just dialing it in.
Then taper off dramatically with a few boxes now and then.
My Glock with six barrels has around 7K.
Everything else has much less.
I never worry about wearing out a gun.
