View Full Version : CW 380 - constant nose dives

I've run at least 500 rounds thru this piece and have lubed and cleaned in line with the kahr prep thread. The spring in the clip has been checked and this gun has been anything but reliable since day one. My first run of ammo was with Winchester White Box. It jammed once or twice every clip.
Then Buffalo Bore Hard Cast Flat Nose +P ( I was hoping to use this as my defensive ammo) jammed 2-4 times per clip. The Buffalo Bore FMJ flat nosed +P jammed also.
I finally picked up some Precision One XTP and it only jammed once every other clip.
All the jams were cause by a nose dive. I have blown more money on ammo than I spent in the damn gun trying to break it in and it still doesn't make me feel good knowing the only shot I may get out is the first one stored in the chamber.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this. I'd really like to use this gun as my CCW.

Thank you for the education in terminology. Any ideas how to fix my nosedive problem?

Some things that it could be/the mag follower / the round stripped bar on the bottom of the slide / the extractor claw is not going on correctly onto the base of the round. You can read lots of posts about this problem if you want to. I'm sure you don't want to waste too much ammo before you contact Kahr. Those things I mentioned might help or maybe not. Good luck.

I forgot to mention to disassemble your mag to see if the spring is put in the right way. If wrong it can tilt the follower. There are posts on that also but you can see for yourself which way the spring goes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did check the spring in the clip already. It wasn't that. I'll be contacting Kahr's customer service tomorrow and will report the outcome here for others who end up with the same problem.

Recently there have been some posts regarding difficulty in contacting Kahr CS. Maybe your experience will be more positive. Maybe you could post your experience.

No. I am on a fixed income. Hopefully Kahr will fix this for me or replace the clip. If I have to come out of pocket any more for this gun, I'm going to dump it at the pawn shop and cut my losses.

Hopefully Kahr will make this right. It seems as though you've done more than you should have needed to do to get this thing working.

Dude I'm not trying to be a dick but if you want to be taken seriously on a forum full of very knowledgeable people stop calling a magazine a clip. Makes me wonder if you know how to properly run a handgun and diagnose a problem.
Also why would you pawn the gun?

After being faultless for two years my P380 suddenly developed the same symptoms. It turned out the the frame was bad and had to be replaced. Contact Kahr, explain the problem and request an RA and prepaid mailing label. If the frame is replaced the gun will have to be returned to you through your local FFL as it will be considered a new gun due to the change in serial number. Your FFL may or may not charge you for a transfer fee for the transaction.

Got to side with the poster on this one. You were being a dick and without trying. You could have explained the difference between a clip and a magazine without the sarcasm. Now, go to your room.

I hear ya. Very frustrating. But the mag seems the most likely culprit. If that's the problem, its gonna be a lot less hassle to send in the bad mag than the whole gun, and in the meantime you'll have your gun to carry. If not, unlike all the wasted ammo, at least you'll still have a spare mag when your gun comes back from Kahr. If its going to be your every day carry, a spare mag for the 380 is close to a necessity anyway. Cost is about the same as a box and a half of target ammo.
Just something to consider especially considering the bad cs experiences I keep reading about with Kahr recently.

I guess my first question would be.....................why would you waste that much ammo knowing there is a problem, and you just keep shooting? Wouldn't it have been wiser to realize there was a problem after, say, 200 rds.? Definition of insanity.http://kahrtalk.com/images/icons/icon11.gif

Hang in there, Raggamuffin. While it can be a tough crowd most of us do have hearts. We've sent most of the rude members over to Glock Talk where they're more welcome, but a few who stayed forget themselves from time to time. Even me. But, I'm trying to be a kinder gentler muggsy. How am I doing, Bawanna?

The CW380 likes round nose ammo much better than flat nose. Still, it sounds like yours is not normal if it is failing with the XTP bullet. Mine feeds those fine.
Does your mag drop freely when you press the mag release? If not, the lips may need to be squeezed together very slightly. Loose lips sink...no wait...loose lips could possibly allow the cartridges to be drug forward slightly.
When inserting ammo into the mag, I always tap the back of the mag firmly on the heel of my hand to make sure the rounds are fully seated to the rear of the mag. That probably isn't the issue, but worth a try.
When it fails, is the ammo nose diving and being held against the feed ramp so the slide won't go forward?
I guess you're holding the pistol firmly? If you use the slide release method to feed the first cartridge, has it ever failed to feed the first one? Have you noticed any pattern such as 2nd shot usually fails?

Here's what I would do:
Call Kahr.
Explain to them your problem.
Ask for prepaid postage.
Send gun back to Kahr.
Include a detailed letter with the problems. Send pictures if you got any.
Wait patiently
If it comes back and still doesn't work correctly then I'd sell it

I recently purchased a cw380 and have never had the nose dive issue with it. I did have the issue with one mag on my cm9. I returned the mag to Kahr and they sent out a new one. No more issues. I would hate to think you got 2 bad mags, but it is possible. I would get the mags swapped out first.

Is there a trick to getting their customer service to answer the phone? It times out and sends me to a voice mailbox that says it's full. I'm dialing (508) 795-3919 and choosing option 1 from the automated system.
