Gang,

Just got a Tavor and am impressed just from handling it. I will need the snow to melt before I hit the range. Anyone else have one? If so, how does it shoot?

John

Lucky you! There is probably a dozen features of that piece that now makes it banned for sale in Connecticut. :(

I've admired them. I am eager to hear how you like when you get the chance to shoot it.

For some situations where an SBR is needed bullpups serve a very narrowly defined constituency. As a standard issue battle rifle it is a mistake. I know the IDF issues them. but I know IDF soldiers who tell me that if it was not a home grown product the IDF would not have issued them. Have fun but be aware of their limitations.

I am interested in how loud it is. I had an AR pistol once but traded it off due to extreme noise it made. You could not shoot at all without ear protection++

Precisely my thoughts ... especially the "lucky you" part.

Sweet looking rifle, can't wait for the report. I would love to have one, but admit the first thing i would do is slap a Levang Linear Comp on it. Made a huge difference in report on my AR.

The Tavor comes with a 16" or an 18" barrel. It is no louder than an AR.

There is not much to fault about the Tavor. However, because its design and manual of arms is so different than the popular AR platform, and because of it's higher price, adoption will be slow among traditionalists.

The compact rifle is particularly well suited to urban encounters. From my experience, reliability equals that of the AR. Some torture tests have concluded that reliability of the Tavor exceeds the reliability of the AR in dirty environments. (I won't sift dirt into the action of my guns to verify that claim.)

Like all bullpups, the trigger on the Tavor is not as sweet as on a traditional rifle. This is due to the long linkage between the trigger and hammer of bullpup designs. Some Tavor owners have decreased the trigger pull weight by eliminating one of the redundant springs. Several new Tavor triggers were unveiled at SHOT, including triggers by Timney and Geissele. Tavor owners who aren't happy with their standard trigger may want to investigate these more closely.

Good luck with your Tavor. In my opinion, it's the best bullpup on the market.

I'm not a big fan of bullpups. The heat and noise are a lot closer to your face than with a standard rifle. Some people like them. To each his own.

They serve a narrow purpose. As a general issue battle rifle the disadvantages vastly outweigh the advantages. I am really surprised that the best bullpup rifle in the world is hands down the Steyr AUG and even today NOBODY has improved upon what is a timeless design. The Steyr is the "John Browning 1911" to the rife world. The hallmark by which all others will always be compared.

agreed also has a 20 inch barrel for a bull pup. Never liked the sight set up though on the early design. But I sure would not mind a Tavor in my trunk either. The Tavor looks like it can take more abuse just based on appearance alone. Israeli proven so you know its capable.
