I was finally able to take my new CW380 to the range. I fired about 125 rounds through this little gun. I had a very positive experience and will share a little about it.

I only had a couple problems, I found out that the gun does not like Herters steel cased ammo. I had a friend give me about 15 rounds because his gun did not like it, the CW380 does not like it either. The rounds will not eject, the spent casing stayed in the chamber. I guess I will have to find someone to give the remaining rounds to.

I gave the gun a healthy dose of WWB and Herters brass cased FMJ. The gun functioned flawlessly with over 100 rounds of the brass cased ammo. There was a 30 mph wind blowing in my face at the outdoor range. After the 100 rounds the gun and my hands were BLACK from the powder residue being blown right back at me. I have never seen a gun or myself be so dirty after a range session. You could not tell the gun had a SS slide because it was so dirty.

I finished off the range session with shooting Hornady Critical Defense JHP, this is my intended carry round. However I had 2 premature slide lock backs. I'm not sure if this was due to the gun being so dirty or if this will be a continued problem with that brand. The next time I go to the range I plan on trying these rounds earlier in the session.

Overall I was very happy with the performance of this gun, it shoots very softly and smoothly.

Some ammo IS dirtier than others and the .380 Kahrs like to be cleaned or at least have the feed ramp wiped clean every 50 rounds or so. The Schmutz does accumulate quickly in the P380 and it seems more affected than the larger Kahrs.

Steel-cased ammo is not good for your pistols... especially for break-in while everything is so tight.

Good range report, thanks for sharing.

I think you're going to be okay with your .380. I agree with the above poster concerning .380s and cleaning. A practice session for me starts with a clean gun and is the rounds I have in the mags (carry ammo) plus a box of 50 round ball. Clean and load with carry ammo until next session.

+++ on keeping the 380 clean. The engineering is so tight on those small, light guns! So much fun in such a little package.
