Hi Guys:
I just replaced the recoil spring on my CW9. OUCH!

At first the spring appeared to be twice as long as the old. But, in fact, it had just never been compressed. Changing it wasn't easy for two reasons: 1: The tension on that 'never before compressed' puppy is a *****: 2. The tiniest piece of the spring was showing through the guide rod hole preventing the guide rod from installing.

It only took me 20 minutes (and a thumb nail) to figure this out. I took a pliers and 'opened' the end of the spring a tad, and what do you know? It finally installed. I'm sure a gunsmith would have figured this out in a matter of seconds. However, I live with an account.
Peace

Welcome to Kahrtalk there Trainer!....Good job...Yes the new springs are stout until they take a set....Bending the muzzle end out a bit is a common thing to make it fit better so ya done good...Hand rack your pistol a couple hundred times to help the spring set then go shoot the snot out of it....again welcome aboard and if you have any questions just ask away, lots of real nice folks here willing to help you out with any issues you may run across....

It would also went in more easily if the open end of the spring was installed in the twelve o'clock position. Works every time it's tried.

I have never had any issue with my recoil springs. I put the last spiral with the point towards the bottom of the slide and it goes right in. I still think that my 1000 round spring would be fine, but I don't want any issues in a self defense situation. So every 1K I will change recoil and striker spring.
