Newbie here! This is my first Kahr, and it's a used PM9 w/ black slide. I picked it up w/ a Trijicon front night sight and standard rear sight.looking for a new set of night sights. I checked and my slide doesn't have the dimple so it appears to be an older one (sn# VA0909, any idea what date it?) Is my only option the XS Big Dot? This is the only set that I can find currently made for the old style frame. Thanks!

I have a PMJ9 that is VA45XX so it is the same vintage as yours is and indeed it has the older style deovetail So ur kinda limited. But I would highly recommend the xs big dot sights.
I would highly recommend u shoot it a few hundred rounds for reliability to. before u spend any money for sights etc. Your VA numbers back then was a recall on the barrel and all kahr did was polsih the feed raqmp and r3turn it, Most nev er sent there barrels in, so not knowiing if this gun was sent back, get some 600 grip paper and polish that feed ramp to a mirror shine. I never sent my PMJ9 in and it is perfect. I will also tellyou to buy the new recoil spring assembly for your kahr to and order the assembly for the older style blnt nose slide, as if u measure ur flat peace on your recoil assembly more than likely it will measure 3/8", the new assembl;y are now 1/2" in diameter. If u hav ethe 1/2" in there now then u are good to go, also. U have what I call theblunt nose version slide (similoar to glocks). Kahr made a slide change a few years back for some dumb fokking reason and beveled the front of the new slides and actually made the slide .020 longer so it will require the new style recoil assembly. THEY WILL NOT INTERCHANGE. Kahrs webb site shows both assembly and they are marked so u will know. If u call in an order definitely state the old style slide.
Indeed shoot a 100rounds first to see if all is well, then proceed with the site stuff. The xs is a ksuper4 great defense site, and that is what your PMJ9 is It ain't a target gun and the looooong trigger sometrimes gets the best of alot of shooters, so take ur time and shoot 7 yards and under,.
U hav ethe DLC finish PMJ9 and IMO u have the best kahr ever made in the "ol Jocko blunt nose version". None better
I would advise thoush if you hgave the 3/8" recoil assebly in the gun to order the new recpil assembly for what you have is the original and that goes back almost 8 years..
any questions just PM me, as I have hashed this many timne son the forumn and the colonel who is our great moderator, told me if I continue to rehash old stuff he is gonna put me on probation AGAIN. hE HAS THE POWER TO SEND A VIRUS RIGHT INTO YOUR COMPUTER...Just sayin
I would also recommend u read the kahr tech section and the kahr lube chart and the propper prepping thread. Do it right from the git go ad this gun will never let you downj..
U ca go to the kahr serial number history on this forum and it will give u the birth date pretty darn close, but u do have an early version PMJ9. U also have the polmer slide stop release button whcih kahr has now went 6to a metl one, drops right in but if your mag release is doing OK, then IF IT AIN[T BROKE DONT FIX IT..

Thanks for the detailed reply. On my first day of ownership, I actually put 175 rounds down the tube of assorted ammo types w/ no issues at all (except for a trigger finger blister). It does appear that I need the old style assembly as my spring has 13 coils instead of the newer 15 (though the flat part of the recoil assembly measures 1/2"?). The date guide dates this at April-May '04. I'm glad to hear the praise from you on these blunt noses.
Btw, my slide release is metal, and the ramp is a mirror-like polish so perhaps the owner sent it back. Nice!

Your good to go it looks like. All the right stuff and the blunt nose is still my favorite as well.
I don't know about availability of sights but if the XS are available that would be my first choice anyhow, so the rest don't matter.
Sounds like you got a keeper.

fro kahr. they make the BIG DOT old style tritium sites for your kahrj, let them install them, $120 plus installation. Now ask yourself ,,,, DO I REALLY NEED NITE SITES???????. zis it worth this additional cost????
I think we all think and feel like we just gotta have those nite sites, but IMO in a SHTF situation ur not gonna see much of anything. Just my 21 cent son this. I will say my PMJ9 hasthe excess bog dots on them but after 5 years the tritium is almost all gone to... I like the big dot part but could care less about the tritium stuff..

I have XS Big Dots on 2 of my carry guns and will put them on any gun that I carry...eventually. I love them. When the SHTF and I pee myself, I'm more likely to see that big dot in the front if anything at all. Congrats on a beautiful gun!
