View Full Version : 2 more magazine problems

I seems every time I post anything on a gun forum lately it is because I am describing a new problem . I ordered a new complete magazine from Kahr at the same time I ordered 2 new magazine springs for my existing magazines.
Went to the range yesterday with my dad and stepmother and we all shot our carry guns.
The new magazine Kahr sent me would fail to stay in place and "pop out " after I fired a round or two through it. No I was not hitting the magazine release, and yes it was definitely seated properly. that was the first thing I thought too the first time it happened, but after about the third time I knew it was the magazine. I cannot see anything with my naked eye different about it, but it must be out of spec somehow.
then I noticed one of my original magazines was hard to put in like it was swelled or something. after getting back home I looked at it closer and it had split in two placed on the back side at the top.
So I now have one good magazine.
Oh by the way , my Glock and walther had malfunctions also. I think I know what is wrong with the Glock (weak recoil spring ) but the Walther is going back to the factory.
To add insult to injury my dad and step mom's guns all functioned perfectly.
I wonder if I am doing something fundamentally wrong or just having a run of incredibly bad luck.
I am seriously thinking of just buying a Ruger LCR and giving up on everything else.

Would this be with a .45? I had multiple problems with my PM45. The first time they replaced my frame to stop the splitting. Later I had two more incidences and all three times they replaced ALL of my mags.

It must be your luck or lack of it. All the mags & guns can't be bad right? As far as revolvers in the past 2 years I have bought 2 S&W revolvers. I know that they are more expensive but if you want to sell later resale is better. By the way I still have both of mine/ no problems /no misfires /both Scandium which is light for carry. I did a lot of research & looking & it paid off for me. Just my opinion.

Yes, I looked at Smith really closely, we have had and still have several of them, all too big for concealed carry though. The Ruger had everything I am looking for however. One of the big things is I am going to immediately change the front sight to a night sight. Almost none of the Smith's had a replaceable front sight. Other things too, I hate the Smith and Wesson locks, the trigger pull, the price, I really like the transfer bar safety, etc.
I love Smith and Wesson, and probably would go with them but, just could not quite find everything I am looking for on one of theirs

Look straight up. If there is a dark cloud over your head you are experiencing a run of bad luck. Call Kahr for a free replacement mag. You may also require a new mag release. The good news is that the mag release is something that you can replace yourself. You don't have to send the gun back to Kahr. BTW. I have a lucky rabbits foot that I'd part with for a nominal fee. There is no other way to change your luck, regardless of what Jocko says. :)

Yeah, I was thinking my mag release might be worn a little, although it is strange it is just with the one magazine I am having trouble.
How hard is it to replace? can you give me a link?

might take u 2 minutes to replace it. Muggsy has done it alot, so u know it is a no brainer to do.
I think and someone will shortly direct u to a post that tells u how easy and how to do it also. That is a good place to start with ur trouble shooting. Mag releaswe really don't wear but they can be out of spec..
After you've done it once, the magazine catch can be replaced in 60 seconds.
Field strip your pistol. Look into the mag well and you'll see the spring rod which holds the catch into place. Notice that the spring is captured and can only be removed by flexing the top of the spring rod to align with the release slot. Once the the spring has been released, the mag catch will drop out.
Reverse steps to install the new catch.
Edit: It took me longer to type this than to actually change a mag catch. I can't type as fast as Jocko does :D
Edit #2: I found a vid for you. Painfully slow moving, but it shows how to change the mag catch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUvcGKqNGZI

Thank Jacko, It's nice to know that you have my back. (Please excuse the typo that I made in your name.) This link will take the poster to a You Tube video that shows you how to replace the mag release button. It isn't the best quality, but it should give you a general idea. ( That's not me in the video. Both of my hand have ten thumbs.) :)
