I had an XDs 45, had to send it in for that recall issue. When I got it back after 4 months, just lost interest in it, besides sit fatigued my had quickly. Then went on to a Bersa Thunder uc45. Liked everything about it BUT I regularly got hammer bite despite hand position (they need to extend the beaver tail). Finally got my new CW 45 striker fired. So, a long story to get to ammo. I’ve had a chance to shoot a lot of different 45 acp ammo. Right now I use Barnes 185 gr TAC-XPD +P. I was considering the new Liberty 85 gr copper ammo but just felt uncomfortable with such a light load. Shot some Federal 185 gr Hydrashock +P.
So far the Barnes TAC-XPD is my go to daily carry ammo. I’ve been reading a lot about this new copper ammo that has, for want of a better term, a Bart Simpson tip to their bullet. Can’t seem to find it anywhere as it is sold out as fast as it arrives. It looks interesting but is it a trendy load; think it might be as ballistic gel testing looked no better that the Liberty 85 gr.G.
So what is the point of this unending tome? Not sure except to share my (uneducated) thoughts about what I plan to carry in my brand new, Sweeeeeet CW 45. Thanks for your indulgence

bezoar, Dave Spaulding does a good job explaining various options in the following videos. Give 'em a peek.

You can use boutique ammo if you wish, but in .45, there is plenty of data to support standard 230 grain hollow point.

I'd personally stick w/ the more mainstream stuff. Not a .45 guy, so can't speak to the specific round. But the Barnes TAC-XPD in 9mm from TNOutdoors9 tests on youtube indicates it expands like a beast, but penetration is an issue.

As for that 'bart simpson' ammo (hysterical description), there are some other threads on that here and after some tests and stuff were out on it, once again frangible ammo has proved to be largely bunk. I wouldn't waste my money on it.

GoldDot, PDX1, Critical Duty are 3 rounds that come to mind that penetrate, expand, and do what they claim. That's in 9mm. YMMV on the 45 versions, but check them out.

I carry the Fed HST 230 gr.JHP in my .45 Sig..............I use the 147 gr. in my MK, and both have plenty of penetration IMHO..........and they don't break the bank too much.

They all make holes so shoot what you like, what you can afford, and what is available. Have fun and be safe.
