sad story. When was the last time the cat was seen by a vet? Is there something wrong with the cat that is making it act that way? Is the cat ignored like so many are? Does it get any stimulation other than a kick in the ***? I guess what I am saying is that some animals are just mean or mental--like people. However, many animals are hurting but we cannot understand their language so the only way they communicate is by acting out. I like companion animals. It would be sad to see an animal put down for reasons that could have been addressed.

Some cats are just psycho like mine. I can be petting it just nice as can be and then it just snaps and bites and tries to claw my arms off. Weird cat. Loves to be petted and and have it's back scratched but don't like to be held.

I had a cat in a previous life that looked the same. Black. it was truly a one man cat that one. It would sit in my lap, sleep on my chest at night, follow me everywhere. But lord help anyone else that tried to touch it. My future wife at the time had to use extreme caution.

Had a buddy came over one day and he decided they were gonna become pals whatever it took. Tried to catch the cat, under the couch, on top of stuff everywhere to avoid him. I thought we were gonna have to take my buddy to the hospital, he was bleeding profusely from both arms before he decided they were pals enough and to discontinue the exercise.
I saw the same cat sitting in an unfinished window hole in my addition jump on a german shepards back as it walked underneath it. I think the dog is still running. Strange cat that one.

Cats can be great pets fo sho. FWIW when petting a cat and they suddenly freak out, it is because they get over stimulated and don't know what is going on. Kind of snap out of a trance so to speak. Tell tale signs are: the cat stops purring just before, the cat gets fidgety just before, or sometime they vocalize just before the freak out. If you pay attention closely, you can often pick up on their tell tale signs but you have to be very familiar with the animal to get it.

While I'm mostly a dog person cats are good pets for some people that don't have a lot of time to devote to another more needy pet....My son has a cat that does the love me thing one minute then wants to attack your arm and bite down just enough to let you know he's the boss and is still really pi$$ed about what happened to his balls....I kept him "Geezy" for a couple of months one time while my son moved into a new apartment and found out the cat had a really strange addiction...

This cat loves to get in drawers and if for any reason you left even a small drawer open he would be in there in a flash....Somehow he got into a small dresser drawer that was left open and got closed up in there without me seeing him...I SEARCHED everywhere for that stupid cat for a whole day and part of a night....He never made a peep and I only found him when I opened the drawer looking for a magic marker to make lost cat signs with for the neighborhood...His tail popped up and he jumped out like nothing was wrong and went straight to the food bowl....

Damn cat, thought he was dead or a goner for sure and had me in tears trying to think up a story I could tell my son about why I let his best bud die...

Mine did that same exact thing. He got into one of my clothes drawers. I thought I'd hear him once in awhile but couldn't find it. It was more like 3 days for mine.
I'd been up in the attic and thought maybe he got stuck up there someplace. We finally did a thorough search 4 of us, starting at one end of the house. Opening anything that opened. Out he popped like he just woke up and what's your boggle.

Weird animal. One searcher who knew the cat said he'd rather hunt for a rattle snake in the house than my cat.

We got along just fine, just did'nt dig other people much.

Not a cat person. I would not shed one tear if EVERY domesticated cat disappeared forever. I am a dog person. Cat people are just a bit different. Not necessarily bad but different.

Most of my life I've been a dog person, but over the years we've also had and have a few cats. I like their independent personalities.

I hear that kind of banter from "dog people" more often than I am comfortable with, but I never have heard "cat people" say they would not shed a tear if all dogs left the planet. I wonder why there is that strong polarization?

knkali. I have to agree. each specxies has its own following. I woned a 16 year old cat that never gave me an ounce of probl;em and was a good pet, At that time Ihad two yorkies, that were great dogs also. but one hated ol jocko, for no reason either

Indeed most hunters and probalby most men could care less about a cat. They think they kill all the rabbits around etc where as dogs never do any wrong.. It is whatit is.

I feel pretty much the same way about dogs. My cat has never kept me awake by barking all night like a neighbors dog.

I have a cat and a dog, they get along well. I've had the cat longer, I got her when I lived in an apartment and had no yard for a dog to play in. I got a blue heeler dog after I moved back to my farmhouse after my ex moved out, unfortunately he got out and got ran over, They had a red heeler mix at the pound, and they just happened to have dog's over a certain weight half price, so I picked up Roscoe. He's a good dog, but hard headed and has taken a lot of work to get him calmed down, but he is only a couple years old and still has some puppy left in him. I like heelers, they are naturally protective, but not vicious at all. But they are hard headed.

I think that may because dog's are more of a "loyal companion and friend" than cats are. Cats are rather aloof most of the time, while a dog is happy to sit next to you or be near you. And they show their appreciation, while cats act like they could care less, until their food dish is empty.

In my house that cat just lost the last of his nine lives and I don't care how many times I have to reload to make sure. An animal is only allowed one bite in my house. His last.

Precisely weedhopper. A cat is like a dog with no legs, it ain't gonna come when you call it.

I like em both, the psycho black cat got along fine with my dear departed Beagle so no problems. Cats are definitely low maintenance but he does love to chase the laser on my PM45. Eyes get huge soon as he hears the thumb break on the ankle pop. Life's simple pleasures.

I didn't hear any where that the cat had a history (besides the Vet visits) of attacking the family. I could only imagine that if the child pulled the cat's tail and reacted, and then the Dad kicked or hit the cat, then maybe the cat said "it's on." As usual there"s barely any details as to whether the cat is nutso or if there was any history of mistreatment. I'm more of a dog person, but I feel sorry for the cat.

There is. I have a acquaintance who lives in a rural area. He and his wife have 3 cats and he shoots EVERY dog he sees without hesitation or mercy. He is a bit weird too he is a gin drinker. Like I said weird.

That's just sick, just shooting a dog. I've never been able to even shoot a coyote even though I've had several chances, always afraid I'd shoot somebodies dog in error.

And a gin drinker to boot, I think there's a special place for people like that. No where close to me would be a fine start.

I have both and they each have a very distinctive personality. Cats and dogs are just like people, some are crotchety and some crave attention all the time.

I caught the tail end of another news detail about this. It seems the baby pulled on the cat's tail. And then the cat reacted.

Not a pet person myself. No time for the responsibility.

But if I had to back down from a dog, or worse, a cat...like the fella in this story...I wouldn't show my face in public ever again. I can hardly believe this story.

I mean, ok, a tiger maybe...or a lion...but a house cat? gotta be kidding me!

Even my girly girl wife said the minute she heard, throw a towel over it and call it a day.

Standard joke at our dinner table now where the psycho cat hangs out. I tell the kid don't piss it off I don't want to be trapped in the bedroom all evening waiting for a SWAT team.

"They were hiding in the bedroom? What a bunch of pu$$ies". Mrs. b4uqzme.

Dog lover here but we have mice so we have cats. We get along OK but I never feel bad when they "wander off". Not like when we lose a dog. Then I'm a mess.

A gin drinker, huh. That explains it all. Gin makes you want to sin, but hard liquor is quicker.

Exactly this. I bout ran over a hog one night coming up a road that wasn't finished yet, called the LT and Sgt told them not to be shocked if I came up behind them. It was funny.

I'm not a cat lover, I can tolerate a cat and if they catch mice then great. If one attacked my son, I couldn't guarantee that cats safety for very long. I'd be damned if one trapped me in the bedroom. It would be time for cat season. I bet a blank would of sent that cat running.

Blank nothin' ... cat pull that on me or a family member and it be a shoe (with my foot in it) to the head. PETA be damned. No need to waste ammo or alert the neighbors. It's a freakin' house cat.
