View Full Version : Next Kahr: K9 or T9?

Thinking about another Kahr. Currently have a CM9 for pocket carry and a CW9 for the nightstand. I've never owned an all-steel gun. The CW9 feels great in my hand (I'm a small guy) so I like the idea of a K9 with the soft polymer grips. Then again, the slightly larger T9 with wood grips looks great too. Buds has both in stock.
Obviously I'll make my own decision but I'd love to hear what you guys think.
I have a K9 and a T9. I use the K9 for carry and I bought the T9 to use at the range. I just got the T9 last summer. I've had the K9 for several years and I've shot it a lot.
If you want a gun to shoot at the range, the T9 is the way to go. The steel plates and bowling pins run and hide when I go to the range. The K9 is also lots of fun to shoot at the range, but the T9 is more fun and easier to shoot.
The K9 is great to carry and good to shoot.
So, if you want to carry it, go with the K9. If it is just for the range, the T9 is the way to go.

I can't see myself carrying it. CM9 is my preferred carry and the backup for that would be the CW9 due to its light weight. I'm thinking probably nightstand and range.

I have to say the T9 then if you aren't planning to carry it...no question. I have actually transitioned to my TP9 as my carry gun of choice, but it's quite a bit lighter and thinner (in the grip) than the T9. Nothing Kahr makes is outside of the realm of carry, unless you already carry a Kahr, then the T series guns DO seem a big big in the belt.
Just my 2 cents, get the T9.

I have and enjoy both models, however I get more fun out of the K9. This is due mostly because my K9 is outfitted with better sights and a laser grip. There is no laser available for the T9. I use both the 7 and 8 round mags in the K9, so there's no advantage in that regard in the T9. Both are fun guns, reliable and easy to shoot.
As a side note, my favorite range Kahr is the TP9. I enjoy it more than the T9 and if I really wanted to, I could put a laser on the polymer framed TP9.
No wrong answer here. Enjoy whichever you choose.

FYI - LaserLyte used to make a laser sight that replaces the rear sight of all 45 cal Kahrs and on the rear sight dovetails on newer Kahr 9mms. They turn up occasionally on eBay and Gunbroker. They work great. I have used both Crimson Trace Lasergrips and the LaserLyte rear sight replacement. I prefer the LaserLyte as I can continue using the K9's soft rubber grips. The Crimson Trace grips are made of hard plastic. I suspect the newer T9s can use the LaserLyte rear sight model so you could continue to use your wood grips and have a laser too.

Didn't realize LaserLyte made any of their products for the Kahr line.

ripley16 - The LaserLyte rear sight replacement for Kahrs must not have sold very well. I bought mine brand new on a half-price closeout. They work great. I do not know why they were not more popular. Perhaps the on/off switch location?

Neverhave seen a T9 but I bet that is one mean fokker. If I was going to have a hoe/range gun,I think in the kahr line I could lean to the T9, as much as I love my K9 to.

If you are not looking to carry it, the difference between the two is incredible. The size and balance of the T9 is simply perfect for me. I own two 9's and two 40's. I also have a K40 and keep it simply for the Laser grip and carry options.
But handling/shooting there is NO comparison. The T9 is one sweet pistol.
I had one previously that I installed a Laserlyte on. They work fantastic, but for me, the always on-always off thing was a downer. The switch is very convenient, but not instinctive enough if the need were there to "raise and fire" in a dark house (for example). I didn't like the idea of responding to a bump in the night scenario with my laser on .... making ME the target. For myself, the passive switch at the grip is the only way to go with a laser.

I generally have little use for a 9 anything but I want a T9. Only seen and held one for a very long time and it was sweet.
I do have a K9 and a K40 but I still want a T9 or T40. Does that make me greedy? Perhaps it's just diversified.

As someone who owns both and carries the T most of the time I have to concur with all here, they are both great. However, the T is definitely the sweetest shooter. I think it is actually more comfortable to carry the T as the rubber grips seem to grab cloth and hang up when moving around. The wood grips do not do that. Can't go wrong either way or just buy both!
