New York Educators Punish Student For Wearing NRA Shirt

A high school sophomore in Grand Island, N.Y., recently had his 1st Amendment rights violated by educators who viewed his promotion of his 2nd Amendment rights an “inappropriate” violation of the school’s dress code.
Grand Island High School student Shane Kinney, 16, is an avid outdoorsman and, along with his parents, a member of the National Rifle Association. He recently received a one-day in-school suspension after a school official deemed his shirt a threat to the educational process because it was emblazoned with logos for the firearm advocacy group and two hunting rifles.
“They said it was the guns,” Shane’s father told the local WGRZ-TV.
The young man was ordered to turn his shirt inside out. He refused. He was subsequently suspended because of a school policy that states: “Any student who refuses to do so or who… fails to comply shall be subject to discipline.”
According to reports, the school’s policy says nothing about depictions of firearms on clothing. The only thing even close is a passage that urges against garments that could be construed as promoting violent activities.
Kinney’s situation looks like yet another example of how the Nation’s public education system is being put to work to indoctrinate students against 2nd Amendment rights.

A school is a child's place of business. It is the child's business to get an education, so that they can become productive members of society. When in business a child should wear suitable business attire. They shouldn't look like rock stars, gangsters or public service announcements. There is a time and place for everything. Children should be able to wear what they like in off business hours.

I know it sounds like a broken record, but it's about control, not about guns.
Our overlords refuse to distinguish between good, safe, lawful use of firearms and criminal use. Yet they go to great lengths to push safe sex and teach about bad sex.

My kids learned about sex the same way I did, from the girl next door. Sometimes the old fashion way is best. :) I see kids going to school looking like freaks. That really makes me want to vote for the next school bond levy. There's a time and a place for everything. People fear what they don't understand. It's up to the parents to see that their children get a proper education.

Now days most parents are as screwed up as their freak kids. Just a casual observation.

You have a point there, Bawanna, but that doesn't absolve the parents of the responsibility.

True indeed. But the parents never knowing or understanding responsibility can't project or teach that to their offsprings.
It's why the country is the way it is today in a nutshell.
Main reason behind the crop of folks that don't know no better than to come out of the rain unless there's a government mandate and a check to go with it.

yep I agree BUT I have seen a lot of youth that do not have the sense that their parents do. So there seems to be other influences out there that trump decent parenting(?)

Your absolutely correct. I've seen good parents with good kids that suddenly took a bad turn. I think that's the work of the devil in some form.
I also believe (putting on flame suit) that todays educational systems sometimes induce failure rather than success.
Most here probably already know that too.

Seems like school uniforms would be a good idea, khakis and a polo for everybody....Solves a lot of problems all around for both parents and the schools....

Actually, when I attended the University of Florida, that pretty much was the dress code for female students.

That's why the schools should be instilling discipline instead of allowing permissiveness. A kid shouldn't be allow to have any self-esteem until he truly accomplishes something.

No, but I can tell you that the American flag shouldn't be worn as a shirt. It's disrespectful. Don't expect me to salute your shirt. Too many men and women gave their lives for that national symbol.

+1 Getsome. And every mother's able bodied son should be required to spend at least two years in military service to their country when they graduate. It would straighten most of them right the flock out.
