With winter in retreat, I got out to the outdoor range after a few months of having other things taking up my shooting time.

I only took the PM9 and a Beretta PX4 Type C out today.

I hadn't shot these two together since the Beretta was brand new. It must have 600 plus rounds through it. The trigger is as close to a Kahr trigger as anything I have shot.

When it was new, it was stiffer and grittier than the PM9, which was already well broken in. Now, it feels like a full-sized, double stack, .40 S&W Kahr from a trigger standpoint.

The other good comparison today is the Beretta has Big Dots on it. After not staring down either slide for a few months, I was on target right away with the Big Dots and the Kahr sights took me a couple magazines worth to start hitting where I thought I was aiming. They don't seem that different, but my brain seems to think they are.

A good day. I had the whole range to myself most of the time.

Want a home made big dot?? Get a cone shaped dremel smooth grinding tip and chucked up in a drill wobble out a large dot and fill with your finger nail color or choice. Easy to increase the size. It will look good when done . I shoot group size well enough but practice point shorting out to 10 yards more as that maybe all the time you have to defend your self. Then sites don't matter

I've been thinking about the 17 round PX4 9mm as my full-sized 9mm to go with my Kahr CW9 and CM9. I have a Glock 19 but I'd prefer something with a trigger closer to the Kahr.

As I'd like my wife to be able to use it, how easy is it to rack the slide? My wife can rack the Glock but not the Kahrs.

The slide is pretty easy to rack, relative to the PM9, and mine is .40. The thing operates really smoothly, particularly with several hundred rounds through it. It is a breeze to clean, with no pin to remove to break it down.

With the extended magazine, I can have 18 rounds of .40 in the nightstand, if I smash them in hard enough. I usually have 17 though, 16 in the mag and one in the chamber.

I can fit 14 rounds in the flush fit magazine.

I think the 9mm gives you at least two more.

My only complaint with the PX4 is with the slide mounted safety. I wish that Beretta would learn to put the safety on the frame where it belongs. Otherwise it's a great gun.

The PX4 Type C does not have a slide mounted safety. It, like a Kahr, has no safety.
