It is my understanding that a couple civilian AR manufacturers exist in Ukraine, as well as at least one in Russia. Speculation is that those guys are Crimeans recruited into the local "self defense" forces to work with the Russians. Either that or Russian specops get to run what they want, as do some of our boys. I have also seen at least one picture of what clearly looked like a Romanian AK. I noticed the varied gear is often in the hands of the fellows wearing that odd tan and brown uniform with pants that look like waders.

I heard the AR was actually designed and prototyped in the Ukrain and that Stoner guy has been getting undue credit all these years.
