So there is a P9 for sale locally w/ standard sights, 2 mags and no box. The owner says that he's not sure what year it is but he bought it right when they came out and it has about 2000 rounds through it. He also says that it's in great shape. Would you pay $375?

Me neither, I just paid $350 for a brand new CW9.

A P9 new lists for over $700. I'd say it was a damn good deal. See if you can test drive it before you buy it.

As Mr. Backlash pointed out, the very similar CW9 is available brand new for less. But, it won't have two magazines and has a more plain slide without a front sight dovetail. The main advantage of a new CW9 is that it will have a warranty. The used P9 is only warranted to the original owner, so it won't have a warranty for you.

Not knowing where you live or how difficult it would be for you to buy a new gun, one could easily argue that the $375 gun, without sales tax or shipping is close to being a bargain. But, I would want to shoot it first to be sure you are not buying the seller's troubles and headaches.

Admittedly, I have been shooting for many years, am reasonably mechanical, and have a few smithing tools. So, I genuinely prefer to buy used guns and have purchased only a few brand new.

However, both of my Kahr pistols are carry guns and were purchased new to ensure that I would have a warranty. One of two has been back to Kahr, on their dime (including shipping) and not for trivial stuff. The most recent return was for a crack in the polymer frame near the take down pin.

That gun is back in my pocket now. Kahr's warranty service reduced a potential catastrophe to a minor inconvenience. Highly recommended.

That's a good price for a P9. I have a very early P9 myself and it's a really nice pistol. 2K rounds is low considering the gun is about 10 years old or so. 200 rounds a year is nothing. If you buy it, put a new recoil spring in it and go enjoy a great buy.

Thanks for the answers so far guys! I think I'll contact the seller tomorrow and arrange to check it out at the range.

Except pretty much nobody pays MSRP. You can get a new P9 online for $550. Considering the early Kahrs had some issues, I'd be a bit leery of buying a 10 year old one. Personally I'd pay about the same price for a new CW9 and second mag. Get a warranty and new production gun with most of the kinks worked out.

I'd see if they guy would come down on price any. I just saw a new one for $620 with free shipping at Impact Guns. Or get a CW9 with a warranty. You give up the polygonal rifling, but I don't think that's a big deal.
Like the others say, I'd want to shoot it, possibly a couple hundred rounds if I could, and see how it functions. It may be a good deal.
I do like buying well maintained used guns that have no records pointing to me.

I picked it up today for $350. It's super clean and the rifling looks great. Other than the new recoil spring, are there any upgrades you guys recommend?

You got a good deal. And that is a more attractive gun than the new P9.
