Just curious as to what ladies or wives of male forum members carry, on a daily basis. Please chime in with your responses and the path you took to settle on your current defensive weapon of choice.

Well since the operation I'm no longer a lady but my wife ended up with a J Frame revolver. A 638 with the shrouded hammer. I've yet to get around to getting the trigger worked over a bit. It's far too heavy but she gets along with it.

I like the fact that I can pull the hammer back and fire single action, being born a 100 years too late if it has a hammer I'll pull it back every time.
She does not do it only because it's serious risky business to let the hammer back down without it slipping away and going bang. Have to be very careful with it.

She doesn't shoot often and didn't care much for auto's. The J Frame is simple to operate and straight forward. It doesn't hang up coming out of hand bag or pocket etc.

I was tickled that she would carry anything at all to be honest. She carries it all the time.

I also fixed my aunt up with the same gun. She had a little Colt 380 but she wasn't confident with it. She did mention not long ago she'd like to find something even smaller and lighter, apparently carries too much "stuff" in her purse.

I carry every where it's legal! Anymore I'm uncomfortable without a gun. My husband and I even carry when we are home (Home invasions are not uncommon around here, and a cop who I took a retention coarse from told the class that the fastest response time was 78 sec and that was too slow for the home owner).

In the winter I usually carry two guns when I'm out of the house. Most commonly it's my
pm9 at the 7:30 position and my Ruger LCR 357 in my coat pocket.
In the summer I usually carry the pm9 and a back-up gun when it's practical or when the situation demands. For instance if I'm going to be in the truck for a good bit of time I'll
have a larger gun (CZ sp 01 or my Sig 226) velcroed to the counsel and the pm9 on my hip. If we are hiking in open carry snake country I'll carry the pm9 concealed and the ruger (with a snake load) in a cross draw holster.
On occasion I'll swap out with my XDs 45, sig 239 or one of the larger guns (if it's heavy
I'll wear suspenders under a cover garment).
I recently bought a used Karh TP45 that I will gladly carry after it's broken in and I work out a few bugs. Plus I need to put night sights on it but I haven't decided on which ones
yet. I would like to make it my primary carry at least in the winter.
I guess all this makes me sound like a gun nut,….oh well!
I love shooting and am committed to NOT being a victim.

Now for why I chose the pm9 as my primary carry.
I was looking for a small 9mm that was easy to hide (summer can be a challenge with a bigger gun), had a great reputation and had been on the market long enough to have the bugs worked out of it.

My beside gun is an Xdm 5.25 barrel 45 acp that carries 13 plus 1. Need I say more.

My wife like guns as much as me....well maybe not quite as much as me LOL. I did have to kick her out of my safe due to space considerations....Ah, well, more like it was getting too easy for her to see any new additions since my space was running a bit on the puny side. But I digress.
Generally she used to carry an old Colt Detective Special I got her many moons ago before I went overseas....she still has that old Dick Special. These days I got her an XDs 45 and she handles it fairly well and likes the extra horse power it affords her.

Dang! I wish we had a "Like" button. +1, anyhow, AIRret. I wish I could get my wife to take interest in guns... more interest... learn to handle and shoot the numerous acquisitions I've made "for her"!

At least she's a good partner... helping me at the gun shows.

You guys might try explain to your significant other that when the BG's attack they usually take out the man first. Your wife/girl friend may very well be left to defend herself and
the kids/grandkids.

My daughter carries a Walther PK380. Fits her hand and she can rack the slide easily. AIRret is right on. My wife has arthritis so bad she cannot hold a pistol. Tried to get her to get a CCL so she can purse carry and be able to hand a pistol to me. So far no go.

Maybe she can carry a Kimber pepper blaster!
One of my sisters is a pre school teacher in MI….not only are these teacher not allowed to carry but my sister is NOT comfortable with a gun, even though she thinks (rightfully so) that me…with a gun is as natural as the sun coming up!!
However, she is comfortable with the pepper spray……at least she has an option!

There are several self defense gurus (including Masaad Ayoob) that suggest
carrying a BUG so you could (have the option) pass it to a friend! I think it's great and a viable alternative! Go for it!

Wife and daughter both have the Ruger LCR 357.
They do quite well with it.
But, they also love shooting the K9 elite.
They think its "complicated", but they shoot it really well.
Someday......

MY wife doesn't like extra stuff... more weight... in her purse. She'll carry my little pill holder for dining out, but won't take much more!

The purse is the worst place for a woman to have her pistol... the usual target of thieves... and easily separated from her. One should be on her body.

Of course, the usual response to that is it's better to have one in the purse than not at all... like having an unloaded gun is better than not having one at all.

My kid sister carries a Walther PK380 with a laser sight. It's easy for her to rack and she shoots reasonably well with it.

Let's face it................a purse, even though a necessity for most women, isn't a real smart thing to carry. If you carry it strong side, it can be taken very easily............if you carry it, with the strap over the head, onto the weak side, a person can use it to throw you around like a rag doll. Best to carry on person, or not at all. Fools don't need more handguns......................

My wife's first carry is a Taurus UL85 .38 Special but she found it bulky and hard to conceal after agreeing that purse-carry was NOT an option. She now carries a S&W Bodyguard 380 and has been trying quite a few holster options. She has a flash-bang but no flash, if you catch my drift. I offered for her to have a boob job to help with using that holster (yeah, off topic but damn!...) which she is seriously considering. Ahhhh, the little known joys of gun ownership...

I thought of that but was ashamed of myself for having those thoughts. Since you brought it up too, apparently I'm normble after all.

I personally hate to see God's artwork in the form of woman defaced or hidden to conceal a weapon. But they must have a means to do so.

Not an issue with my coworker violets (with only one exception). Most could hang a coffee maker on their belt and it would go virtually unnoticed.

I know my wife will only go with the purse. We're fortunate to live in an area where muggings and purse snatchings are a very rare thing. The biggest worry is in a shopping cart and stuff like that.

I do intend to get a flashbang for trial and evaluation for her of course unless I have an operation.

My wife usually carries a Ruger LCP. She sometimes carries her S&W 642 Ladysmith. She doesn't know it yet, but she's getting a CM9 for her birthday. :)

My lovely wife carries a Sig P238 and sometimes a P938 .... but usually the 380. She has trigger control issues with the pull on a Jframe, and loves the single action. Though not the best place, she carries in the purse ... and I'm glad at least that she carries at all.
