I spent almost four hours with two new shooters yesterday (husband and wife). In previous weeks, after some discussion with the couple, I recommended the wife order a S&W Model 60-15 (3") and the husband a Kahr P9. Time on the range yesterday confirmed those choices.
I was especially gratified to observe the fit and finish of the little Kahr. After spending some time orienting this couple to each of their firearms, cleaning and lubing the guns, we headed to the range. The P9 shooter was using Winchester "white box" 115 gr. ball. The dude (who hadn't shot much in 20 years) simply pounded the center out of a paper plate @ 7 yards. The gun was perfectly regulated and never bobbled through perhaps 60 rounds or so. It was fun to watch this relatively inexperienced shooter's confidence grow through the session.
Kudos to Kahr for this P9! It's performance makes my recommendation look good.:D (And the Smith was simply a jewel as well).

u certainly guided both to some fine guns. That Smith is a super nice peace and IMO the P9 is at the top of the class in the kahr line, light, accurate, and super quality. I bet your two friends ar ealso glad you guided them right also. Nice job indeed:third:

Guess I haven't really given all the information I should have. The "discussion" time I referenced above included about an hour with the woman at the range some weeks before their current purchases. She had never fired a gun. We started with a friend's 4" K frame Smith .22, then moved to my 15-3 (with factory wad cutters) and then my 60-4 (also with wad cutters). I also let her try my P9. She chose the 3" 60 S&W as her preference based on that experience. The 60-15/3" gun came with fiber optic front and "V" blade back sights. The action is maybe a little stiff, but remarkably smooth right out of the box. It was also regulated perfectly for the wad cutters we used. I doubt if she'll find much difference in POI with more sophisticated ammo...at least from 7 yards.
I spent less time with the husband, letting him handle several guns-including the P9. That's how he came to his choice. Bottom line: they're happy and I'm happy they're happy!

That's the best way to bring new shooters into the fold. Let them handle, then take them to the range. It's also a good sign that you and I presume everyone else was as open and helpful as you were. I have been to ranges that were an ole boys club, and outsiders were not welcome. I of course took my dirtbag self elsewhere and had much more fun.

I too am pleased with my P9. The 200 round break in with three brands of ammo was flawless. I can sling shot a round into the chamber from a full mag and the I can push the slide stop out with only finger pressure. After the break
in neither the slide, barrel or frame exhibited any unusual wear. I added a Bedair SS guide rod and PM9 metal mag base plates. I am rarely without the P9.
