Interesting story about a man shooting his licensed pistol into his car being stolen and killing the perp....Looks like they are going to get him for 1st degree Manslaughter because he can't prove his life was in danger which means 10 years in prison....One hell of a shot though and IMHO just another dirt bag at room temperature who won't ever do it again!!!...Nice shootin Tex...

Once the turd is in flight mode and there is no imminent threat YOU CANNOT SHOOT. This guy messed up and will properly face the music.

Here in Texas if a dirtbag perp is makin' off with your property (TV set, car, dirty underwear, whatever) it is perfectly legal to shoot them to stop the crime in progress.
If death is a by-product for said perp, then tough mammary - our Castle Doctrine Law here protects the good citizen from any civil action too.

In Indiana the castle dopctrine law is pretty vague. Used to be it had t beon ur property now it is anywhgere in the state if u feel ur lif eis in danger. Shooting through a car might not float to well here but again alotof unknown circumstances here to that could change things.
I would not have shot through the car thatis for sure..I see the ol Geroge zimmerman ting popping up here, especialy if the fella shot was black and a white man or hispo shot him. It will bring Rev. al and hair lip Jackson out of their hibernation.

Don't count on the "stand your ground" or "Castle Doctrine" to save your rear. If the press gets a hold on it you MAY win the case in court but you will have spent thousands of your own dollars defending yourself in the process. As much as I hate to say it, I have no private property that is worth having my mug on MSNBC every night calling me a killer of "a nice boy".
Now if that killing shot went through the FRONT windshield as that "nice boy" was trying to run you down... that is a totally different story.

Don't. You work hard for your stuff but this poor guy got off a very (un)lucky shot and now he's in bad trouble.
I didn't grow up around guns. I bought my first one for protective reasons, after a lot of soul searching. One question I remember asking myself is "Can you watch somebody run (or drive) off with something of yours, and not shoot?"

Excellent!!
We've had this same discussion with a friend who is contemplating the purchase of a gun for protection. It was a very long talk…….
But the fact of the matter is, material things can be replaced, your freedom can't.
You need to call the police, give them detailed information, and hope by some miracle your property is returned!
Ditto ok to shoot to stop a felony in Fl

Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine are thin reeds to hang your life on to shoot a fleeing felon. Get over the macho he/she stole my stuff and they ain't gonna get away with it. Unless there is a threat to your life let them run. It is ignorant to shoot somebody who is already in flight for a property crime. Regardless of circumstances a shooting to the back looks VERY BAD no matter SYG or CD.
I hate thieves as much if not more than the next guy. However foolish actions are NOT what is needed now or into the foreseeable future.

I read alot on this forum and utter gun forums of ALOT OF MACHOISM. I seriusly doubt if most would just go guns ablazing on most of the scenarios that they post. Just my 21 cents.. But it makes some feel bigger when they post this stuff. I would bet anythingt that George Z would have now taken a good beating from Crayon Martin before he did what he did. :Amflag2:

I wouldn't shoot at a fleeing car. To much of a chance of hitting an innocent bystander. That does not hold true in the case of someone assaulting me. And I don't give a rats behind if it's on Public Square at high noon.

Regardless of what's legal or legally allowed, my moral compass draws the line at "life is in danger". Once that threat is over, my gun is in the holster. I gotta answer to St. Peter some day.

I can see both sides of this and as bad as I would want to ventilate a punk jacking my car it wouldn't be worth going to jail for the rest of my life....On the other hand if the law had any common sense they would say well he got what he deserved and a good citizen with a gun stopped what could have turned into a high speed chase after a stolen car that could very possibly end in the deaths of innocent drivers in his path or the death or injury to Police Officers who would have to apprehend the turd....

^^^^^ I hear ya but you can't shoot someone for what "could" happen.

Your life is no longer in danger.
Insurance will replace the car.
There's no way I'm shooting.
Except if they are continuing to shoot at me as they flee.

You're both right....If you are going to carry a gun you had better be able to keep a level head and use maximum discretion because if you give in to anger it will cost you dearly in the end....

Indiana if a ersonis assaulting u, ys then u can use deadly force. alot wouldhave to dependon the circusstances of the assault for me to draw and shoot someone, , but I hink he would be on thin ice in tht situation. Just sasyin.
Just pushing me back or sumpin would not get any action from me,or verbally assaulting me like most of u members do to me wouldnot get any reslsts from me, but I have said this many times. ,,,m fokk with my family ad ur bought and paid for, fokk with me and u might just get away with it. Ihate scenarios to. every situation is different. Soituational awareness has to be #1. Thats why George Z ot off IMO. he was assaultd and sowed the signs of an assault. But hindsight is always 20-20, I just think he would have chosen a different path knowing what he knows now, as would crayon martin to..
I carry to protect ol jocko, not some bystander ..
