That looks kinda like my plan A, plan B, but plan C is my pistols, I have no bayonets for my rifles :(. I do have blades galore, but no bayonets. Besides, like Apple Seed teaches, make every round COUNT...;)

Buy a 1891/30 mosin for about $80 - most come with a sling, cleaning gear, oiler, tool kit, and bayonet.

The bayonet is almost as long as the barrel on my AR, so it's around 18 inches long.

And to think the Redcoats used a measly 16" long bayonet (with a base larger than an inch) on .75 caliber muskets ;)

My Nagant didn't come with a bayonet. I would have had to pony another 20 for that. My Mauser and Enfield I can't even find one for. I've thought about ordering one for the Nagant at CTD, but haven't done so yet. You might appreciate this Mosin Nagant Humor AK vs. AR vs. Mosin Nagant (http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinHumor.htm) I thought it was kinda funny, but true.

I'm patiently waiting to find the right deal on an AK74, though funny, there are some mis-truths in there (but I still laugh every single time I read it :D )

I know but it was funny, and I've at least shot AK's and AR's I really don't care much for either. Though I can take an off the rack M-16 and make a ton of money at the 500. I can go as far as my eyes will let me which is about 1000 with a 308 or there abouts. Reminds me, I have some good slings for hasty work, but need to get a few so that I can loop up.

USGI is all ya need man - the M1907 slings are great IF you body build/rifle just happens to match the sling set up. 1 inch increments of adjustment tends to leave a lot of people either too lose or too tight. They work great for hasty and loop, just toss on some quick disconnects if you're not running a rifle like a M1 or AR that is built to run a USGI sling.

I need more USGI slings anyway....and Slip2000.....

I was thinking more like the canvas from the M-16/M-14/M-1 Garand. It's pretty stupid simple, and it works very well. The difference between them is the hook, color, and the material used. In any event, they work, and have infinite adjustment. MGR-015 - M1 Garand Sling Tan Canvas 1.25" Wide Adjustable Length up to 45" New (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MGR015-1.html) I'll have to remember how to make the loop out of it, it always takes a minute to remember.

You guys are good. You coerced me to go out and fondle my Mosin rifle and carbine or perhaps more properly short rifle. I hadn't held them for at least a couple weeks. I gotta get me an AK too, mostly cause I dont got one. Couple fellas at work got them and they are a blast to play with and of course I'd take the cartridge over the 223 8 days a week.

jlottmc (http://kahrtalk.com/members/jlottmc.html), that's a USGI websling :)

General Appleseed primer on sling use and positions - AR15.COM (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=9&f=19&t=229087)

That'll help ya out ;)

That's pretty much what we used. It takes me a minute or two to loop up, I pretty much remember it. I figure if I'm looping up, then I have a bit of time and will make it up down range. Our USGI's were black or green nylon, and I have to say they did a bit of everything, and all of nothing well. They might be loud, and might have a premature release if the keeper isn't happy, but they do make a fine shooting support. I may get some again. And to think I had an armory full of the things and couldn't give them away. Thanks, for the refresher.

Get cotton ones, they don't slip at all.

We had problems with the keeper. If it was locked down tight and done for long periods/multiple times it would compress the cotton slings and then be so loose that it would pop the keeper, the other problem was more evident on new or really thick slings, the keeper would act like it would lock, then usually at the worst possible time it would fly open. We had about one sling in 20 thereabouts do that. Most worked and worked well enough. I may try to get some in basic black again, but then again your talking to a guy who has a ton of unmarked Beretta magazines, from the Clinton days too. I may have to call some favors in, but it shouldn't be a problem. Worst case I can dye the ones from CTD.
