View Full Version : A different "Q-tip"

When getting ready to do the initial cleaning of my new MK40, I came across these at WalMart. I think I like them for getting into small places and corners. Very dense cotton tips hold their shape and don't disintegrate when applying lube.

Thanks for the "Tip" there David....I'll pick some of those up next time I'm at Wally World...Last time I was using regular Q-Tips to apply some sticky green grease to my slide I was picking off cotton fibers everywhere so those look like a good idea with that pointy end....Welcome to Kahrtalk by the way and thanks for this idea....

CVS has similar product that has a even sharper harder tip but they are about $3.50 for 75 brand name EYES. i keep the walmart and cvs side by side and just use cvs in real small places. they will get eyerything out of slide grooves

Thanks for the "tip"! Q-Tips are a major component of my gun-cleaning regimen, so I will definitely give these a try.

Yeppers. Been using them for many many years. The ones with the pointerer edges are a bit better and run through the groves on the slide perfectly. All my ccw students learn about these and I never clean a gun without them. If your a guy, wear a skirt when you go get them for effect. Good to pick up finger nail polish to do slide engravings at the same time. Lol. Good post btw.

Thanks! I'll admit that I thought this would be something like the cartoon I posted, though!

You had me excited to get some of these. They look perfect for gun applications.
But... went to CVS today, and struck out. No problem, drive across town and pick up the Walmart kind. Nope!
Nothing but Q-tips and generic equivalents in stock today, and no knowledgeable staff to be seen. Maybe next time. ;^(

Did you look in the cosmeticx/makeup aisles? They are labelled as cosmetic applicators and the ones I found in WalMart were in the makeup aisles by the big bags of cotton balls.

Nope. I tried the "Q-tip aisle" and the eye care section at both stores.
I'll try makeup next time I get to town. Wait... that doesn't sound quite right!!!
Thanks.

Your secret is safe with us. Glad you disclosed this on the Kahr website and not somewhere else that would show you less respect. What's your favorite color eye shadow?......OH never mind, forget that last sentence.;)

I'll have to share my Bag Balm story at the store when I get time. I still get a chuckle out of it.

Can hardly wait. You always have good stories.

Ok I'm home, wife's working, the time is now.
This story is true, the names have been changed to protect the idiots.
In a much earlier life my second career was building fences. A lot of post hole digging and mixing concrete, mixed in with galvanized pipe and wire. Gawd awful horrible on hands especially at first before you toughen up. Most don't like to wear gloves neither so they don't help much.
I'd been doing this awhile and my dad was a fence man before me so alot of information was passed down you might say.
Anyhow we had a new guy and after the first week or so his hands were just hamburger, raw, blistered, red, just painful to look at. He'd tried hand lotions and all kinds of stuff but none helped.
I should have told him when he started but I guess I forgot or wanted to see him suffer, or maybe I just didn't like the guy, don't remember that part.
Anyhow I told him to go to the drug store and get a can of Bag Balm. Anyone who's ever been within 10 miles of a farm knows what it is. Comes in a square can, green as I recall. It's made to smear on a cows teets to keep them from drying out when you milk and such.
I told the guy all this and where to go and everything without a thought.
So pay day off he goes to the local drug store and he's wandering up and down the aisles looking for Bag Balm. Finally a young pretty gal, undoubtedly raised in the big city ask if she can assist him.
He says yeah, he's looking for Bag Balm, comes in a green square can.
She says she's never heard of it, what is it used for.
Well the mental giant without thought says you smear it on your teets to keep em from drying out.
Well as you can well imagine she was not impressed with this statement and was quite put out. The only thing that saved the mental giants life was an old gal obviously raised on a farm who quickly stepped in and said not on your teets for cryin in a bucket, on a cows teets. This of course confused the young gal who didn't know they carried farm supplies.
They were apparently right next to it during all this verbiage.
The old gal then explained to both exactly what I'd explained to the guy at work. It works really good. Way better than Corn Huskers etc. I don't know if Corn Huskers works on teets or not, never tried it.
I knew it would be good. Any farm stories about Mountain oysters?

And I was thinking that the punch line would involve another kind of "bag".
