I think my magazine spring was in backwards since it looked like this:

Are there any other pics or description of how the magazine spring should be, I just want to make sure. I did notice that the spring didn't orient the way it is shown in the owner's manual.

Also, when I took the baseplate off - a piece of plastic fell out of the mag, a piece of the follower. I haven't even shot this gun yet, I was just going through Jocko's prep instructions when I discovered this.

That looks wrong to me but I always use the top end for reference. It should just naturally lay at the same angle as the top of the mag tube/follower.

I don't think there is a top or bottom to the spring but it's been awhile since I was inside one so I might be off on that.

You can send an email to Kahr or call and they will send you a new follower. If it breaks again they will probably want the gun back to modify the feed ramp so it doesn't hit the follower.

Usually they work just fine even broke but you'll want a new one to make sure all is well.

The other thing that I am going off of as far as the magazine orientation is that according to the manual the loop points to the back of the magazine, meaning the open end of the U of the loop opens toward the front of the magazine - or toward what would be the muzzle.

Maybe the orientation of the last loop at the bottom of the magazine spring isn't as important as the angle of the top of the magazine parallel with the top of the magazine?

correct: I sure would let kahr know that you have not even shot the gun and iut has a broken follower. eamil attn: Jay, THAT WOIULD PISS ME OFF BIG TIME the mag sring can be uysed upside dwn and it is the same. The open end goes towards the front of the magazine follower. It is veryt easy tos ee how it orientates when u reverse that to. :amflag:

Well I fired 100 rounds through it with a broken follower. I shot 50 rounds of 124gr Winchester Ranger T NATO - RA9124N. And 50 rounds of the Georgia Arms 124gr NATO.

The only problem I had was that the slide didn't lock back on round 94. Not a huge deal for me, I mean my Rohrbaugh doesn't lock back at all. But anyway I am going to chalk that up to firing the gun with a broken follower.

I didn't have any failure to feed, FTE or failure to fire, failure to return to battery or anything - just once instance when the slide didn't lock back on an empty mag.

I did speak with Ian at Kahr, and they are sending me a follower.

I asked him if the fact that I already had a broken follower meant that I had one of those barrels that was going to crack subsequent followers and he seemed to have a rote response to it "If another follower breaks we will have one of our gunsmiths look at it..."

Yep, that the standard reply. Looks like they have it down pat. :)

I also could have been pushing down on the slide stop. The way I hold the pistol, it is more likely that my thumb is exerting pressure down than up.

I'm careful not to have m thumb under the slide stop.

Broken follower? How can that be? Sounds like a rare one...LOL
Seriously, sorry for your problem. Good news - it will get fixed.

I'm wondering if the follower were a MIM part would we be experiencing all of these failures? A curious mind would like to know.

probably not but if it was a MIM part then the feed ramp (which is the real issue) would be businting into that MIM follower so damn hard that it would then bust out the back of the magazine tube, which we have seen in the past a few years back. It is not a follower issue. IT IS A FEED RAMP ISSUE

Are you saying that the spring in the picture is backwards?

I broke one follower in over 32K rounds and didn't even know it wasw broken until I cleaned the magazine. have no clue how long is might have been broken. I never contacted kahr about it but I would have had it happened twice. Somehow the gun loosened up enough to work itself out of that issue. as I never fokked witht he feed ramp.

Today if it broke a follower, I would do the feed ramp mod myself as I feel it is a no brainer, but right now it ain't broke so i don't fix it either. I did have to modify my follower to slide past he magazine releaswe button and not wanting to grab it. Now it slides past with zero restriction. I had done that mod a few years ago but just enhanced it more this past winter...Just sayin

I got a new follower from Kahr.

I loaded a mag and put one in the chamber, fired 7 shots total and the follower broke in almost the same way the first follower did.

But then the gun went on to fire another 97 rounds without a problem - no failure to ignite, FTE, FTF or any other problem of any kind.

I sent my CM9 in last week, I got it back yesterday. Iit was 10 days including the day I shipped it.

oday I shot ten 124gr Lawman TMJs, ten 147gr Bonded Golden Sabres and forty rounds of 115gr Winchester FMJ through the CM9 with no broken followers and no other problems.

I did get a jam when I tried to chamber the first round by slingshoting the slide, but we know that Kahr tells you to lock the slide back and use the slide stop lever to load the gun. I've never had a problem when loading the gun via hitting the slide stop (slide release) lever.

It looks like Kahr fixed the feed ramp.

Great news! 10 days turnaround and a fixed gun is good service!
