It has been awhile since I bought a new handgun, so I thought I would show off my new 1911(just got it last week) and do a little review.
It is a Sig Sauer Tac Ops 1911. And it is fast becoming my favorite handgun.
I have been thinking about getting a full size 1911 for sometime now and stopped to look at some the other week. I had been leaning towards another brand, and was just looking at other options when I ask to see the Sig, Wow! this thing is loaded with features and felt so well made and fitted I decided to get it. (after a little encouragement from some forum friends:D)
Some of the features on this model ...
Forged SS frame and slide with Nitron coating, really nice night sights, checkered steel MSH and front strap checkering (really adds to the grip)
a small but usable ambi safety, Pic rail, under cut trigger guard, a mag well, etc... and even with all that it also comes with 4 quality 8rd. magazines!!!

I got out to range to shoot it for the first time yesterday and it ran flawlessly with all four mags. Shoots a little to left (probably me) but I was able to make some nice small ragged groups with it @ 25ft The plate in the pic is 3 mags worth, upper group is 2 mags of FMJ. And the lower group was 1 mag of Ranger T 230gr HP. I know it is way more accurate then I can shoot it.
Now I just need to get/find some .45 ammo and or brass for it and I will be all set.

I made an IWB holster for the big beast, and while its much heavier then my normal carry guns, I didn't really have any trouble conceal carrying it with just a sweatshirt over it. It won't be my normal carry gun but will see some winter carry use. And with a Streamlight on the rail will also be a great HD gun. So far I am very happy with it!

Sorry, I didn't' finish my post. I'm kind of watching the Detroit Tigers while I'm
typing and I goofed up.
The holster you made looks really nice, have you made one of those before?
Your target looks good to me, and I'm sure as you get more familiar with the gun it will only get better……scary!

Thanks AIRet,
No, no pocket carry for this one LOL. Your husband and I must have similar good taste in guns. :D
Yes I have made that style IWB holster for a few of my other guns, but this is the first pattern I made up for a full size railed 1911.
Thanks Col. B,
Your words of encouragement helped push me over the edge LOL

Not the first time I've been accused of that very thing.

Aw, come on you sissy. Cocked and locked in your pocket! Be a man! Better yet, cocked and just down in your britches...its got a grip safety after all.
Seriously, that's a nice nice 1911. The tac ops or the nightmare are the two front-runners for me, once I finish some other 'gun list' items. Congrats.
BTW, good shootin' too!

Thank you Greg!
The extraction worked great BTW, they all ejected strongly to the right, and back a few ft. and landed in a pretty nice tidy area. I was able to find all my brass easily. Thanks again for your input.

BEARDOG,
So how are those grips? I have always liked the look of them, but never handled one (tacops). One youtube reviewer talks about how aggressive they are and you'd maybe want gloves or to change them out. They just LOOK pretty mild (to me anyway).

They are made by Ergo grips. IMO they have a nice heavy texturing that provides a good grip, but they are not so abrasive that I thought about needing gloves.
They are a hard rubber/poly? material so they aren't as tacky as a rubber grip sleeve or tape. They look good, and work well with the MSH and front strap checkering (The front strap 25 LPI checkering is just crazy grippy) to provide plenty of grip. Once you grab hold of this gun it stays put, I can't imagine any conditions that slipping would be an issue.
I wouldn't wear it IWB without an undershirt, that might get a little uncomfortable after a bit. But that is how I normally do IWB carry anyway.
For stock grips they are really pretty nice, and very functional. I don't feel I "need to" upgrade/change them anytime soon.
But of coarse I have already been looking at some VZ G10 grips, just because I like the aggressive look and cool colors patterns they have.
I also know a guy that makes some really great looking 1911 wood grips too.;)

I've got a set of the VZ frags on my CZ P-01. Love Love Love them. Kinda why I asked you about the ones that came on the sig. I really like the newer Sig P series grips, not sure what they call them, but the texture looks similar to what's on your tacops...so figured it might be the same. Maybe the guy on youtube was referring to the front/back of the grip...I've seen quite a few 1911s over the years that had some nasty nasty checkering on the front that would make most of us girly men cry.
Thanks for the info.

I got the Nightmare and I'm very pleased with it. The front strap checkering is indeed sharp but it's a good sharp. Like BEARDOG says, the gun ain't going nowhere. I recommend Sig 1911s. Glad you like yours BEARDOG.
I am a huge 1911 fan for sure. That's one pretty Sig Beardog. They make a really nice firearm.
I have a few Sigs and love them. Could I interest you in making me either a IWB like yours or a snap on over the belt type for my Commader sized Sig 1911 "Spartan Carry" ???? I just love your workmanship and have several of your spare mag pocket carriers.

BEARDOG, that is a great looking 1911. Nice job on the holster. I carried my 1911 Commander OWB yesterday covered only by a Hawaiian shirt & it felt great. I know you are going to love this one more with each passing day! Congrats my friend...you've officially made me jealous! :D
