Hello to all-

I a have a PM9 on order as we speak and have been through these "PM series" pages very thourghly and just want to do my due dilligence and ask the following question.

Aside from the occasional lemon that any manuf can get into the market, are the PM9's pretty GTG right out of the box? That is, other than the "fluff and buff" that is listed in the forum. ANy major issues out there?

Read something about the guide rod popping out the end of some guys slide by about 1/8"

Bbls finishing flaking off? Not sure if this has been addressed by current manuf guns?

$700 hundo is A LOT of coin to throw around for me, and I am looking for some honest feedback (yes I know this is a Kahr forum) on how well these little guns are going to work w/o major head/heartache and trips back to the Mothership.

Any feedback, good or bad, is much appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance!!!

Have reasonable expectations is my advice. I have heard some claim that their's has been "flawless." I find that hard to believe but I won't question it. ;) Mine was good to go out of the box. The only prep I did was remove the slide and wipe out some of the metal shavings from the factory and oil the rails. That was it. Mine has had a great track record, but it has not been "flawless." I remember the first 200 rds were flawless. Somewhere between 200 to 300 rounds, I had 2 fail to feeds with Federal 115 fmj ammo. In the 400 to 500 round count, I noticed the nickel finish on the inside of the barrel was flaking. I had no problems because of it, but Kahr sent me a new barrel free no questions asked. I did return the flaking barrel first for them to inspect. Around 750 rounds, the front piece of the guide rod flange fell off while shooting. I noticed this after I had stopped shooting for the day (some 200 rds). I don't know when it came off but it caused no problems. E-mailed Kahr about this, and they sent me free a whole new recoil spring assembly with a new guide rod. I have a spare on hand just in case. By the way, Kahr's turn around time was 2 weeks for me in both cases. I have had a few times where the slide would not lock back on the last shot fired (maybe 3 or 4 times total). This is just a guess, but somewhere around the 1,900 round count, I had another failure to feed. The bullet got caught on the feed ramp. This was around 240 rounds straight without cleaning for that day so the gun and feed ramp were dirty with powder fouling soot. This past session at around round 2,140, I had my first failure to eject. The gun fired and the empty shell stayed in the chamber while another round tried to load behind it. My recoil spring at that time had 1,400 rds on it, and Kahr recommends it being changed around 1,200 rds. So I replaced the recoil spring (I keep a few as spares) and shot another 50 rounds after that with no problems at all. My PM9 total is 2,195 rounds. The replaced barrel has 1,770 rounds through it with no more flaking. I love the PM9, and pocket carry it. I also have the Crimson trace LG 437 on it and love it. You will love yours too. There is no noticable wear and tear on the polymer. The barrel hood (top of chamber) has some very minor wear from slamming into the slide but the wear gets to a point and stops and does not get any worse. This is normal. I have shot a variety of ammo--federal, winchester, remington, american eagle, Blazer 115 & 124 grain fmj. I have shot hollow points too with no jams--powr' ball 100 grain +P, Speer gold dots 124 grain +P, Speer Gold Dots 124 grain standard pressure, federal 124 grain hydra-shok standard pressure, and some 147 grain winchester personal defense hollow points.

When did you get your pm9 and did you buy it new?

I got mine last June, 2009. Next week will be the 1 year anniversary. It's a IB07xx serial number. It's a stainless slide. I got it new, and I had to get on a waiting list for several weeks before I got it. The shop had plenty of PM40s, but I decided with the 9mm. I had never shot one or knew anyone who had one. I read good reviews, liked the way the PM40 held in my hand (the PM9 is about the same size) and rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

always going to read more of issues with guns on a GUN FORUM than non issues. Being this is a kahr forum, your gonna read about kahrs giving issues. Remind yourself that kahr literally sells thousands of guns a year, things can happen. Some are not right, Most all are, IMO. Some shooters to are also at error with thier new guns to, not just kahrs. Both shooter and gun must melt properly together or there willbe issues.

Read allthe stuff you can on this forum about peoplehavingissues and read what thosue issues are and then when you get your kahr you have a heads up notice of what to look for it things start to go south. Do't be nervouse about buying a kahr.

Your just not gonna hear of the many kahrs that are shooting great and having no issues. To me issues are something that happens time and time again. I don't consider a FTE of one round in lets say a 1000 rounds an issue. There are many reasons for that. But if it persistsd then one must start to eliminate the possables and that is where I think this forum is full of good guys who have been there done that sort of thing..

I just put 150 rounds today thrugh my PM9 and my round count is over 29,100 as of today and this gun looks totally new, not a worn place on the gun, just goes bang ever time. I keep it cleaned, I keep proper spring replacement in the gun. I love to shoot it. With my PM9 today I had my best shooter gun my G19 with me and it has never failed either but today it failed to lock open on the last round. Upon inspeciton I have found that the slide lock lever is bent and I have no clue how that has happened either. It is never holstered and just sits in my shooter box and Glocks slide lock levers are not cheaply made. Is this an issue???Well for me it is not, I just ordered a new lever and will fix it myself and move on. Sh-t happens. Use something enough and your likely to have more happen with it than one that is hardly used. Just the nature of the game.

Read all you can about kahrs, they are super great guns, they are selling like hot cakes for I do think the horse is out of the barn on kahr now. People are realizing how great of a gun they are and are realizing how concealable they are over what ever other gun they presently have.

Are kahrs for everyone??? IMO No. Some never get the hang of the trigger system and keep coparing it to their 1911's etc.

Keep in mind that there are some people who come on to gun forums also just to stir . Again it is the nature of the beast

Unfortunately, for some owners they get a bad gun and then it needs to go back tothe factory to get right. I can only say from reading the posts on this fourm that Kahr goes the extra mile to make it right.

i was one of those guys having the issues with guide rod spring protruding out in front of guiderod causing problems.
i sent it back to kahr . they worked their magic, and after 10 days turn-around, i got my pistol back and it has been 100% .
although i still have to load by releasing slide stop lever.
i wouldnt consider this a gtg out of the box type of gun(for obvious reasons) but with a lil tweaking they do appear to be great lil, guns.i love the trigger, and the overall feel of the gun.

I know what Kahr says in their manual and to be quite honest, any firearm should and does need an initial break in period. Some manufactures to a lesser extent can get away with a very brief break in due to their loose tolerance which is by design. A perfect example of this is the old venerable military 1911 Colt issue...loose as a goose for a reason...can't hit squat with an oldy goldy bu will go bang every time. Glocks are like that to an extent by design...losse chambers.
I agree with JOCKO.....they are machines and proper maintenance will be required. Follow the manufactures instructions and have at it!
I currently have three Kahrs, one MK9 Elite, one PM9 and a PM45. The only one that had any minor FTF was my PM45 and that went away early on in the break in period. Oh and by the way am am not in the least bit worried about carring any of my Kahr's as a primary go to weapon. All of them load reliably using the slide stop or sling shot method. You can't slow rack them because of their small size, close tolerances/tightness and heavy duty springs....duhhhh....they are throughbreads as I see it and need just minor amount of TLC by the operator.

I have about 1500 flawless rounds through my PM9.I cleaned and lubed it in the parking lot of the gun store where I bought it.The range I go to was about 5 miles away and I wanted to try my new gun out.I didn`t know anything about Kahr firearms except what I had heard from a couple of guys that I knew.I was a little scared at laying out that chunk of change but I figured what the hell.I traded a Bersa .380 in on the Kahr and I`ve never regretted doing it.I`m one of the people that have never had any problem out of my PM9 with any ammo I have fed it.JHP,FMJ all different weights,no problem.I changed the recoil spring at 1200 rounds, not due to any problem but as a maintenance precaution.I clean and lube after every range trip.I have nothing to gain by lying about the gun and believe me,if I was unhappy with it,I`d be bitching my ass off.
