View Full Version : What is your knife EDC?

Hello, all! (i didn't see this thread so hopefully it wont be a duplicate) I have never owned a "good" EDC knife and I'm curious what you all are currently carrying. At this point, after narrowing down my price point and watching endless reviews on YouTube, I believe that a Cold Steel American Lawman will best suit all of my EDC needs and at a price I can actually afford. Anyway, I'd love to learn what blade you choose to carry and why. Thanks! :40:

I personally don't like knives. They scare me. Makes me lightheaded just THINKING about being cut. Ugh! But I'm weird like that.
That being said. I carry a Spyderco Persistence. I'd carry something better (my hiking/backpacking/go-bag knife is a Para 2, but I really don't like the idea of loosing or chewing up a +$100 knife for day to day use. So that's why I chose the Persistence. Seems to hold an edge pretty well, cost me $35, so I can go thru 3 or more of them if I have to before I'm at the cost of something nicer.

I carry a Kershaw. Relatively inexpensive, good steel, holds an edge and spring assisted. I don't carry it for self defense as I always have a pistol where permitted. Its a handy tool is all. And I won't be too upset if I lose it or break it. As an outdoorsman who likes remote places, I substitute a Leatherman in those environs.

I hava a CRKT knife that also has glass breaker and seat belt cutter on it. It has held edge well and was reasonably priced. It also has dual locking release to prevent closing on you.

Microtech Ultratech. Kinda pricey, but this is the most reasonably priced Microtech, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Did I mention it is made in the USA? There are some pretty cool torture tests of Microtech's on Youtube.

I like fixed blades myself. I have a few good folders but I keep going back to fixed.
This is my current hands down favorite although I do frequently go back to a stag handled damascus blade that Greg sent me a long time ago. It's a gem too.
I'll have to hunt up a picture of that one or take one I reckon.

I'd have no issue prying open a car door with this thing.
And since I asked for a smaller version of a larger bowie many refer to it as the bawanna bowie or IBBB Itty Bitty bawanna Bowie.

Truthfully, I have a similar one (mine has an ink pin instead of a toothpick) that is the closest thing to an everyday carry among my knives.
I do usually carry another knife (knives), but what they are varies.
Out and about, away from the house, but not afield (purposely), I'll carry one of these folders. The Sebenza on the left most often gets the nod. I've owned it many years and carried it for a great deal of the time I was on active duty. I'm also partial to the Sanrenmu clone of it (third from the left). It's a very, very good knife at a ridicoulsly low price. Afield, I carry a fixed blade (most often the REKAT on the far right) and a Swiss Army knife (in addition to the key chain one). I like either (or both) of the red handled ones in a photo further down (the saw bladed version being part of a pocket kit).

the top two are the Infidel by Benchmade and the HK made by Benchmade
The last is the Infidel again my wives EDC Benchmade and the 3rd EDC of mine the Police 3 from Spyderco with my homemade wave feature.
The one I keep going back to is the HK OTF. The weight size price and speed seem to give that one the nod. 2nd is the Police 3 and third is the Infidel.
For the money, the Spyderco Endura is a lot of knife for the money....check it out.
I am thinking of selling the Infidel.

I carry this little Gerber now, and really like it. I use my knife daily at work, and after carrying Kershaws, Spydercos, Al-Mars, Smith & Wessons, and SOGs, I wanted something with a replaceable blade. These Gerbers are the first I have seen that are thin enough, and have a deep-carry pocket clip, like the SOGs.

Currently I wear either a CRKT Dogfish or a Cold Steel Secret Edge as a neck knife.. Just purchased a CRKT Sweet KISS to put in the rotation.
Then I have a Kershaw Compound, a Kershaw Asset and a Kershaw Leek that go in my pocket. Love to have a Kershaw Blur but the price is a bit more than I like. Actually the Leek was more than I wanted to spend but when it came on sale for less than $40 shipped I jumped.

I received my Cold Steel American Lawman and love it. For some reason Cold Steel puts a crappy black coating on this model that comes off of the blade very easily with light use...instead of it chipping or rubbing off over time and looking ugly, I decided to remove the black coating from the steel blade and lock bar myself, revealing a beautiful, stonewashed AUS8 steel. I also sanded under the pocket clip on the G10 surface to smooth out so my pockets don't get destroyed. This is by far the grippiest folding knife handle I've ever held. The triad locking system that Cold Steel utilizes on this beast is the strongest lock back out there, giving the user full confidence that the blade will not fold on the hand...I highly recommend this affordable, quality EDC blade.

I have a little three blade Buck I've had for years that I carry in my pocket, and then on a clip is my Gerber Outrigger. That Gerber feels amazing in hand and opens in a flash.
If I'm being more outdoorsy, I carry a fixed blade Case Ridgeback, which will absolutely split hide like it's not there. I've cut up deer, rabbits, and a wild hog with it, and have never wished for anything else.

Carried one for a long time. Watch out Muggs, mine started to act up in training class. It would not open cleanly all the way. Why I do not know---possibly their patented locking system. I tried everything from cleaning it to adjusting the tension nut. Cleaning didn't help and the tension adjustment made the blade sloppy at lockup. I finally broke down and took it apart---MISTAKE. After taken apart it never was right. Finally gave up. Its kind of a heavy piece but a work horse of a knife. I am really picky about how I deploy and speed of deployment so the knife was a little iffy for me. With my OCD aside...great utility EDC knife IMHO.

I've carried mine for a little over a year now with no problems. Occasionally I'll clean the pivot point with solvent and lube it, but that's about it for maintenance. I'll keep an eye on it at you're suggestion. So far it has been lightning fast an smooth as a baby's butt. Razor sharp, too.

Primarily for EDC chores. The wharnclif style blade is good for cutting up cardboard, slicing, etc., but a BG would go Oww if poked.:). The knife is modular and simple to break down. By getting the Insingo version first, CRK will sell and custom fit the regular blade. This will make it two knives in one.

Actually the knife I probably carry the most since I often times wear it on weekends when I don't carry any other is this little bitty neck knife I got from a buddy here.
It's an AG Russel and sharp as heck and seems to stay sharp. Never had to sharpen it yet and I'm afraid I'd mess it up.
Don't weigh anything, locks into a plastic type sheath with a release button and just down right handy.

My backup knife is a Gerber F.A.S.T. Draw with a 3" blade... very sharp. It only cost about $30 in Walmart and I can open it with my thumb or forefinger on either hand. The spring-assisted opening is safer than a fully automatic, button-operated knife. The only thing missing with it is a window-breaker on the other end.
I wear it clipped to my left front pocket when it's backup, and clipped in my right rear pocket as primary defense when I can't carry my pistol. I carry the Cadet LED ~300+ Lumens when I'll be out after dark.
