Anyone else find that their Kahr (CW45 in my case) will release the slide on its own when slamming home a fresh magazine? In other words, if the slide is already locked open (such as when the final round of a magazine is used) I do not have to slingshot or use the slide the release. I just slap in a new mag and whamo, it takes care of it for me. Kinda neat, but shocking the first couple of times.

My CW9 does not do this.

I would think something needed a look.

Mine will do it if I slap the bottom of the mag pretty hard. PM9.

Not that its a problem... but its not supposed to do that.

The spring tension of the slide stop spring is supposed to withdraw the slide stop when the follower is not pushing it upward, so spring tension is favoring the slide stop's movement.

The notch on the slide or the edge of the slide stop may be deformed. The Kahr design makes it such that its petty hard to depress the slide stop when an empty magazine is in the pistol.

Make sure the pistol will hold open on an empty magazine.

Make sure the slide stop is very hard to disengage with an empty magazine in the pistol.

And.... why are you slamming magazines into a pistol with an open slide? Is there some binding going on someplace? Usually the slam is reserved for pistols who's slides are closed.


(I'll sit back and wait for all the posts that say its perfectly normal, how their uncle's co-worker's neighbor has one that does or doesn't do it, and how they always slam the magazine, even when its empty, and especially while putting it into a magazine holder on their belt, etc etc).

No, but I've not "slammed" the mag, so I'll try it next time out. But popping down the slide lock takes a real effort, so I'd be surprised.

I was always taught to slam'em to ensure proper seating...it's probably habit now.
I had a Bersa that did that..I didn't mind.

I believe that there are other guns that do it too. I'm not sure if it is a flaw or designed, but my S&W M&Ps do it. If you slam the mag by putting more angle onto the front of the base and pushing a bit backwards and up, the slide will action. I was told that it was by design for competition. I'm not sure I buy it. Would be interesting if the angle makes a difference on yours.

I never had that happen with my CW45 or CW40. I don't really Slam the mags in, just slide them in and give em a good tap on the bottom to make sure they are seated.

My G19 did that alot when I was hard on the magazine. some like it that way for it saves one motion to get a round in thegun. I think if u slam u stand a much better chanc eof this happening over normal insertion. I have always inserted the magazine and taped the mag release button at the right time to let the loaded magazine slide right by that mag button. No slamming necessary, but think about it, if u have a locked open slide with a fully loaded magazine that first round is gonna come right up againste te long bar on te bottm of the slide fgast and furious where as if u load at a slower pace it willnot have the inertia to move that slide. I can release my slide on my PMJ9 about every time if I slam. I NEVER SLAM, not because of that though, just never trained that way...

I would not call it a fault if ur slamming and getting this result but normal insertion should not release the slide and if it does, then I would say that little springhy is out of adjustment an needs tweeked.

Often times that little springhy is out of whack just enough that it is locking the slide open but "barely" . the follower is what locks open the slide and if that little springhy is two tight, it is working against the pressure of the follower. Very easy to check out to..

Unless it was a maching error that notch should show o wear either.

Doesn't really sound tome like this fella has an issue either, just bringing it up for re-conversation.

Is your slide stop fully engaged when you withdraw the empty magazine? The slide should not release when a loaded magazine is inserted. Contact Kahr and confirm.

None of my Kahrs do that but my HK USPC40's do that and it is documented in the manual. I would suggest a call to Kahr tech support to see what they think.

None of my Kahr pistols do that, 2 PM45's and a PM9 - of the 45's and the 9 have been shot a LOT too, so they're about as loose as its gonna get.

Like I said... slam home with an OPEN slide? Closed slide, I can see, since you're compressing the magazine spring and trying to get the magazine locked. But on an open slide, you're not compressing anything, it should enter the well and lock easily. Just a love tap at most is needed.

And this goes without saying, but I have no idea what your slam is like. Some folks might say its slam, others call it a little tap. You'll have to judge for yourself.
