I just traded for a new 1911 from ATI, an older milsurp I never shoot anymore and $100, Pick it up off layaway next week:

Good trigger and useful sights, I've got a ton of 1911 mags already, so I'm good to go!

Looks good! Great price it seems like.
I see something besides mahogany in your future.

Tried to get you some Koa wood blanks while we were in Hawaii, but couldn't find any worth grabbing.

sounds like a good excuse to go back and look again? Enjoy the new pistol.

Picked it up today, took it home and stripped and cleaned it. It is well finished and already feels just right as far as tightness goes. it is as well built as a Colt 1991 I had several years ago. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc372/DeaconKC/ATICommander004_zps8b0ad0a9.jpg (http://s1208.photobucket.com/user/DeaconKC/media/ATICommander004_zps8b0ad0a9.jpg.html)

The grips actually look pretty nice in that picture. Looks good.
I got a wide spur hammer from Kahr today that I shall attempt to install this weekend good lord willing and the creek don't rise.

The grips have a nice color and decent grain. I may try to stain them a little redder for an old style color.

Not yet, probably Monday before I can get to the range.

I have a bottle called Military Stock Stain from Brownells. It says with a hint of red. It's alcohol based so as long as there's some kind of oil finish now it will work. If it's poly, probably no so much.
I've used it on rifle stocks, the wood of course makes all the difference but usually it turns out pretty nice.

Looks like a nice 1911. ATI has a pretty good reputation. Hope you have a lot of good shooting times with it.

Cool! I'm in good company. Next step, catching up to Muggsy and Jocko!

I don't think there's enough time to catch up with those two. They obviously started very young and trained with the very sickest of the sick.
How they manage to walk upright remains a mystery to me.
I've often wished I could get DNA samples. I think they are related and it's a genetic thing.

Okay, made it to the range today to break the beastie in. 100 rounds of Federal an Armscor FMJ and this little bugger went through it like teenagers at a pizza buffet. The last 50 rounds I really concentrated on accuracy and it delivered!

Wow! Just wow. But I think the barrel must be bent, it's shooting low.
That's fine shooting right there.
