So why does this kind of thinking and the words of the government disturb me. It all sounds too familiar.

It doesn't matter that the quote was inaccurate the outcome was the same. In every case gun registration has lead to gun confiscation and to the subjugation of the civilian population. If you want to live in a military and police state, register your guns.

Exactly. No matter who said what the outcome is the same. If the people will get out and vote this November we can bring this whole thing to a halt. My question is - will they? I used to have a lot more faith than I do now. Maybe I am just old and cynical. I never dreamed the people would put up with an administration that is made up of bold face liars who don't even try to hide it. But. They do!!

"If you like your health plan, then you can keep it. If you like your doctor, then you can keep him. PERIOD!" Is this what you mean?
There's a little more than two years left in this administration. It will get worse. Bite down hard and show them that you can take it.
Vote wisely, elections really have consequences.

A lie is a lie.
If a person thinks it is OK to lie because he agrees with the intended message, then he has no grounds to b...h when anyone (politicians?) lies to promote programs he does not agree with.

Obama lies everytime he opens his mouth. He can't put two sentences together without one containing a lie. The right isn't allowed even one misstatement? You have very strange views, David.

Misstatement - OK. Knowingly lie - not OK.
Why would a person have to lie about a cause? If a cause is worthwhile, it should be able to stand on its merits.
As for Obama - I would rather not stoop to his level.
