yep. I always feel "not right" declaring it when I go to check baggage.

I don't fly, haven't flown for 20 years.

My wife and son went to a baseball game the other night, said it was just like the airport now. Metal detector, rummage thru your stuff. Glad I don't go to baseball games either. Best seat in the house is my recliner in front of the TV.

Just won't tolerate a bunch of Walmart rejects humiliating me and making me go places as a sheep. Especially Indiana, I ain't going no where near there on an aeroplane, that's for damn sure.

Seems you can't go no place any more without somebody wanting to lord over ya, course I get that at home so I have no idea why it bothers me.

I hate flying these days for numerous reasons, including having to check my firearm in baggage. The few times I have checked it, I've had no problems other than my own anxiety but I've heard the horror stories. I've been flying almost every 2 weeks and I now keep a firearm at my non-home destination. I consider myself fortunate to be able to do that since I'm sure that, if I checked my firearm every 2 weeks, something would have happened by now.

We don't fly that often, but we have had "lost" items. Not lost luggage, just lost items out of those bags. Only stuff I am willing to lose gets checked.

Biggest headache I have is figuring out all the "fees". It is becoming a national plot to advertise low prices and then add "fees". Fuel surcharge fees for deliveries, service fees for buying event tickets, convenience fees for using charge cards. The worst offenders besides the airlines are the universities. Fees are getting to be as much as tuition and you pay them whether or not your courses use the lab (or whatever).

I feel naked when I don't have it anytime. Fortunately, I don't go to places that don't allow firearms, and my flying days are over. Never liked it, and it's just not safe.............I don't care what BS they want to hand you about safety. If people actually knew what went on in the airlines world, they would never fly again..................

Most of my flying is international so no gun in checked luggage period.

I refuse to fly anywhere that TSA is present to humiliate people. And really, how much mayhem and terror have they really prevented. Of course some of the staff might enjoy doing cavity searches.

Just sayin:eek:

I'm rather proud that I've never left my country. Well I did venture barely into Canada in my reckless youth. Wife was born up there on Vancouver Island.

Raced motorcycles just over the boarder just out of High School.

Other than that I firmly believe in see America first, least ways the west side of the Mississippi.

I haven't flown since the late 80's. Haven't had a reason to fly. Don't miss it a bit. Too many rules and regulations, not to mention lousy service.

When I was a little boy ( 1960s ). I got to fly a couple of times to go to Ohio to see my grandparents. I remember, it was really an event back then. Mama dressed me up in a suit and tie even ! Everyone on the plane was on their best behavior, and in their best clothes.
The stewardesses were some of the prettiest ladies I had ever seen. I remember them doting over me , giving me little toy planes and pilot wings for my jacket, and bringing pillows and blankets for us.

Now, it just looks like the serving line at McDonalds.

I flew today. Short flight, from Denver to Salt Lake City. I had to check my pockets several times to make sure that my pistol wasn't there (in the safe) and my knife was in my checked bag.

I haven't flown since I was in the Army and don't intend to again. My gripe is with stores that ban guns. My philosophy is, if you don't provide armed security in the store AND in the parking lot, don't tell me what to do.

Bawanna
06-03-2014, 10:32 AM
And no one should trust armed security neither far as that goes. They are just underpaid cop wannabes who somehow managed to pass the quals to be security but couldn't make it as a cop.

Are they needed- yes. Is it a respect position-yes, should they be trusted- not a chance.

I have an x brother in law who was some high up with a security outfit. They believed in unarmed security. Eyes on the ground, fix issues when before they get out of control. IE: call the cops.

I later squeezed him that it was because they hire young kids who no one would really like to see armed anyhow.
He said in the past they had armed security. One of the young guards went into a restroom because he heard there was a male in there for a long time and thought he was doing drugs.
Guy in the stall was not responding to his commands and making funny noises. Guards whips out his pistol and shot a bunch of times through the door of the stall.
Turns out the guy was like 80 and having a heart attack.

Trust no one, always carry and if anyone ask ya to do something through the stall door, shoot first.

Flying isn't a problem for me because I figured out a long time ago that I don't crap through feathers so I don't have to fly. If I can't drive or walk I don't go.

Me too if I can ever afford to buy one. I been eyeballing the CanAms pretty hard but I'd just feel like a communist riding one of those. Sure like to give it a try though. Been a long time since I had the wind in my face.
Course that big ole bumble bee I took in the face and shoulder that time is still an ugly memory too.

My son who's only been on a street bike less than a month already too a bee up his jacket sleeve. Thing stung him like 5 times before he could get it out. Had gloves and tight fitting sleeves too, can't figure how it got in there.

I make sure he keeps it in the garage or behind the cars so the neighbors don't see it. It's one of them cowasaki ninja's. I leave the other sons sportster out to kind of keep up the standards ya know?

That must have been a fancy decked out model, there were some for like 18,000 a couple weeks ago. I actually liked them better but they were all kind of cool.

The guys at the shop were actually pondering and thinking for me. All I'd need is to somehow get the foot brake pedal up on the bars like a hand brake or clutch. No shifting with the feet. One brake control controls both front and rear brakes like a car.

The other issue is you have to take the seat off in order to put gas in the thing which means I'd have to get off somehow to get fuel. Which isn't a deal breaker since I'd need to figure out a means to get off anyhow. Can't sit on the thing forever. Gotta get off sometimes ya know?

It would be a fun toy, but I think you could get more use out of a 4 wheeler, winter and summer, for a lot less money. Personally, I would love a Yamaha V-Max, but the wife would sit around and worry about me being an organ donor. Should have never told her about the old days...............................

Had a Kawasaki Z1 900 back in 74 and I weighed about 125 lbs back then....I stopped by a fine looking young ladies house one summer day and it was about 95 degrees out and since I didn't have enough a$$ to put the bike on the center stand I put down the side stand and was kinda leaning back trying to look cool when the bikes kick stand sank into the hot asphalt and the thing fell over with me on it and I couldn't pick it back up...had to get her brother to come out and help me....Not cool....:o

I was VERY aware of heat-softened asphalt!

The largest bike I had was a Yamaha RD-400 when they first came out. I DID run over a Kawasaki 900 when we were out with a bunch of new bikers and the dealer. The mob pulled over to the side of the road in front of me, but one guy with a girl on the back did a u-turn RIGHT in front of me... without looking. I don't think either was hurt, but my bike needed new right side and lower engine parts. The dealer sold me those at cost.

I liked wheelies... usually had dirt/road bikes and almost went all the way over backwards showing off with my brother on the back!

I really liked dirt bikes and having fun in the dirt... not competition, though.

I know this wasn't a motorcycle thread and I just went to see how we got off track... Bawanna, as usual. On most forums the moderators "guide" you back on topic or kick you off the forum.

I'm glad that we can discuss wide topics here.

I was going to talk more about wheelies and fun in the dirt, but the topic was about flying without... or with(?) your EDC.

The peppiest bike I ever rode was a Honda Elsinore CR125. It was a high revver and you had to keep it in the powerband, but wow, what a kick it was to ride a race-prepared one.

Around 1982 or earlier, I visited my younger brother and he borrowed two of those and we were riding them on a motocross track. He was used to them and was surprised that I was keeping up with him. I was cutting corners and had to jump a ditch that was about 8 feet across. I opened it up and jerked the handlebars up, almost clearing the ditch... the back wheel just caught the other side and I barely kept from going COMPLETELY over the handle bars. My hands came off the grips and the inside crooks of my elbows caught on the handlebars and I managed to regain control. My brother was impressed.

I could wheelie that thing through 3rd gear... think it had 6... and redline was 10K or so... a super two-stroke.

I rode a couple of those two. Very narrow power band and when they kicked in it was like you got rearended by a bus. If you weren't ready for it you were in trouble. They were sure fast.

you guys are taking me back memory lane.

The Yama 400 was at one time the screamer then the Kowa 900. I remember the Honda that hat the cylinders mounted in a horiz line across the front. What was that bike?

Remember the Hodaka wombat? I think there were other Hodakas. How about the the Ossa(sp) the Bulltaco? Fun times!

Well, so much for flying.
As long as we are talking about motorcycles, in 1970 I purchased a new Honda 750. At that time it was the fastest production motorcycle in the world.
I never had it past 125, tho...:Amflag2:

I flew and owned a Hodaka, rat something or other for many years. I flew but didn't own a Bultaco, weird bike to me.

I remember when the 750 Honda's came out, my uncle and a couple friends got them, they were pretty cool.

You guys stay on topic dang it, Wyn hates thread jacks.

I used to like to fly over obstacles on my motorcycles. :D

I had a series of Honda single-cylinder, 4-stroke bikes... CB(?) 100 in 1970 and then the SL 125 with the 21" front tire in 1971. I really loved that bike and could jump downed trees and other obstacles... kind of a cross between trials/enduro/motocross riding. I was really grooving and jumping trees with abandon until I found that I had sheared 2 of the 4 bolts holding the rear sprocket on the wheel! That "gentle" bump as the rear tire "kissed" the tree after I powered and manhandled the front over the obstacle by pre-loading the rear springs as I jerked the front up... at some kind of speed, too.

My largest Honda was the XL250, an early 4-valve-based street/dirt bike that I rode up into the national forests while stationed at Mather AFB back in '72-'74. I would go squirrel hunting with my trusty .22 semi-auto strapped across my back... no biggee even in California back then.

I think the FLYING SQUIRRELS are protected there now, both the two legged and the four legged. California is a brand new game.
