I thought you guys would find this one interesting. I just got back from vacationing on the beach down south. While there I was wading along the shore and heard a high pitched humming hound from above. Looked up and there was one of those camera mounted quadra-copter RC drones buzzing around. It then turned and followed two young bikini wearing girls up the beach. I looked around and noticed the guy controlling it on a nearby boat (not Jocko by the way ;) ). This lead me to wonder, what would I do if it was my daughter being followed and photographed? Splash one bogie? I wonder what the legal ramifications would be for doing that outside of city limits? I have to say, technology is definitely a tool for good and for evil.

I would be real tempted to take it down. Legal ??? I don't know. One could swear out a warrant for harassment I suppose.

When I first heard folks talking about shooting down drones, I was thinking of the government type. Not likely given their altitude. But this sort of thing would be a different story. I am sure even my K9 would have done the trick--maybe after a few tries. ;)

I own a boat, but not a drone. That's something I'll have to look into getting. ;)

Saw a news report recently on something just like this. Some lady beating the crap of a teenager flying on of those things "spying" on her or someone close to her at the beach or someplace.
Of course, plenty of video of her beating the crap of this little perv, but she is the one who was arrested and facing charges. Something about a beach being a public place and open for viewing of everyone there from any angle.
I'm on the lady's side, though. Of course, if they had them things when I was a teenager...

What if a creepy old guy (other than jocko :) ) was following your teenage daughter around on the beach with a camera in his hand? This is the same thing, just with the person farther away. It's harassment (in Florida).

The anti-hunting crowd has been using them to harass hunters and it is only going to get worse. I am beginning to see these pesky things everywhere. As a general rule is that if you are in a public place you have zero expectation of privacy and can be photographed or videotaped by anyone else similiarily situated.

Well, it turned out not to be an LAPD drone, but here's how hockey fans in LA dealt with being surveilled: Drone vs. Hockey Crowd (http://rt.com/usa/166008-los-angeles-drone-downed/)
Seems shoes are the key trick...:)

Supposedly, the FAA is to release some regulations covering drone use later this year.

Probably not going to happen until late 2015 at the earliest. What most drone folks are ignorant of is that if they are being paid to fly the drone at the very minimum they are required to have a Commercial Pilots License issued by the FAA, a huge insurance policy etc. The local FSDO office in my home city has already contacted several drone flyers and more to come. The NPRM has been out there for several years and it also encompasses folks who fly ducted fan and pure jet R/C aircraft. Getting all the different constituencies together and to agree will be a long term project.

How about a wrist rocket and a bag of marbles;) They are suprisingly effective and accurate after some practice. They are also quiet until the marble hits.

That might work to 100' altitude or so but at several hundred feet you won't even see the drone and have ZERO chance to hit it that way.

If you are hunting on private land shooting one down is iffy. If you are hunting on public land a definite NO-NO.

I can't help but keep thinking what goes up, must come down. Someplace.
I haven't ever seen one of them flying eves droppers yet myself.
I'm reminded of a true story. I was there, I saw it with my own tender young eyes.
My family and the young newly wed couple were out and about picking blackberries or something, don't recall but out in the toolies.
The guy later became a police officer. Anyhow he had a revolver on his hip as we walked about.
His wife made the comment that she didn't know why he carried it since he probably couldn't hit anything with it anyhow.
Without pause, he said see that crow up there (flying overhead), watch this.
He drew and just snapped off a shot, didn't even aim. One in a bajillion shot he hit that crow square, looked like a dead center 12 ga hit.
His own jaw near hit the dirt. And of course then the battle began with her riding him for killing the poor defenseless crow.
Had a cousin do something similar with a sling shot on a swallow but that's another story.

Most of those so called "drones" are nothing more then expensive RC toys with a camera...not exactly new, just more notable in the news these days.
Might the Feds lump them into the "drone" category when the regs come out...could be but for now they're nothing more then toys.
As for the shipdits that are using them over beaches, Yeah we all know what the actual intent of most of them is, but unless they are found to be targeting a specific person it would be hard to charge them with anything and if you look at what the bouchedag paparazi get away with, it would be hard even then to get someone charged with anything when it goes on in public locations.

I have been flying RC aircraft and helicopters for decades. I even have several quads and the main one most of these idiots use. For me I just fly them for enjoyment and relaxation.
