View Full Version : P380 back to the factory
I bought a P380 in April. After getting through the break-in period, I was still having more issues with the gun than I thought was acceptable. The main issue was the slide would lock back with rounds in the magazine. This would happen about 10-20% of the time. I could have probably lived with it but thought that it wasn't right and asked Kahr to fix it. They paid to have the gun sent back to them in mid May and today I called and found out that the frame was defective. They will replace the gun. I am pleased with the craftsmanship that was evident in the gun (other than the reliabily issues I was experiencing) and like that they are standing behind their product and replacing the frame. I am curious as to what sort of frame defect would cause the slide to lock back intermitently?

could be a bad frame, but also coold be that thery can't figure out the reason either. either way they willnot tell you what u might think u should know but what they might think they should keep it to themselves. That little gun is just a dandy when it works as designed. good thatu are pastient with kahr to, they will get u right. When u get the new frame etc, how abouyt visiting the kahr tech section ad hit onb thge propper prepping thread and checking all thing sout before just going right out an shooting it. Do the prep work on it,m it willget u to know ur gun alot better and u will know before u go out on that first trip that all is right with the gun to..
Thanks jocko, I will check out the prep thread again once the gun is back from the factory. I appreciated the thread when I first read it after I got the gun and will prep the new gun the same way as the original one was.

What range of serial # was your P380 spud? My initial one was RB34XX, but Kahr advised it had a cracked frame and replaced it with an RD series serial number. My major problem was light strikes and FTRB. I think there was a bad batch of early frames with the P380's. I have had zero problems with mine since the frame was replaced.
Serial number was RD41XX. The only reoccuring problem I was having was the slide would intermittently lock back with rounds in the magazine.

I feel you really NEED to pay attention to where your thumb is on this little gun. I shoot 1911 style straight thumbs and my thumb would bump the slide stop about 2 times per 50 rounds.
Now I hold the thumb down and put my other thumb of my left hand on top of it, kinda like a revolver grip. his worked 100% last couple times I shot it.
Try this when you get it back-it my be you not the gun.
Thanks for the advice. I am sure that it is possible that I bumped the slide stop. I guess that the factory found something wrong with the gun since they are sending a new one. I wish they would have told me that it was a shooter problem, that way I wouldn't have to pay for another FFL transfer and DROS fee.

The frame on my P380 was replaced because it was defective. I had about 1,000 rounds through it when it suddenly went from flawless to being a jamb-o-matic. Kahr replaced the frame and I haven't had a problem since. The only problem with the frame being replaced is that it is now considered to be a new gun and it had to be returned to me through an FFL. It also required another NICS check. My FFL handled the NICS check and paperwork at no charge to me.
I went down today and paid the $25 FFL transfer fee. Now I just have to wait for 10 days to see if I have a good gun. Sounds like your FFL was better than mine and you didn't have to wait for 10 days to take your gun home. Gotta love CA gun laws.
