View Full Version : Where does my CW45 fit in?

Hi everyone, me again.

Out of all the pistols I own, they are pretty much all either Kahr, or Tanfoglio. I guess I've finally found the brands that I like. My first Kahr was a CW45, which I still have and really enjoy. I recently purchased a CM9, for pocket carry, and I feel like my CW45 isn't getting the love it used to. I initially got the CW45 for conceal carry, but don't like IWB carry. The CM9 fits great in my pocket (generally back pocket, jeans and slacks, or cargo pockets), and I told myself that I would save the CW45 for an open carry piece.

But...I feel the CW45 is too small for open carry. This got me thinking about a CT45 (or even a TP45), and was looking for some opinions. Sell my CW45 and get a CT45? It would serve the same purpose of a open carry SD, as well as home defense. Should I get a CT45, and keep my CW45 as a HD piece? I'm not really looking for a range toy, as I have a couple of those already (Kel-Tec PLR-16, and my USPSA Limited Tanfoglio I'm slowly building).

Thanks!

Your choice is yours alone, But I don't think most members here would think the CW45 is too small. I have been carrying concealed for over 20 years and my CW45 is great for a CCW piece either IWB or in a small holster with a cover garment. If you are comfortable with the accuracy and your ability at Combat distances your CW45 should serve your purpose fine in my opinion. If you want a bigger gun just remember ,extra weight and size makes it harder to conceal in a belt holster and it will wear on you after a while and you will probably be wishing you kept your CW45.
Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for your comments. I know it's ultimately my choice, but I'm looking for opinions since I can't exactly go to a local shop and hold a CT45 (no one around me carries Kahr's, as far as I know).

Again, my CM9 is for conceal carry, and I will likely never carry my CW45 concealed, if I keep it. My CW45 fits more into open carry for me, or with a cover garment (jacket, probably if I was to conceal it). If I get a CT45, I wouldn't look to conceal it as I would like have my CM9 in my back pocket. The CT45 (or CW45 if I keep it) would be open carry in a level 1 holster.

Personally I don't think you really gain much going to the CT45.

If I was going to open carry which I never will I'd be tempted to go with a T9 or T40. I'm not a 9 kind of guy but I do love the T's. Wish they made a 45.

I'd keep the CW since you love it (I can feel it in my cells) and it loves you back.

I have a PM45 but I still have a hankering for a CW45. I looked at the CT45's, haven't seen one in person but it doesn't raise any must have flags with me.

If I didn't have the carry rotation I have it would probably be a different deal and I might just have to have one.

Well, as coincidence would have it, I have a guy with a TP45 looking for a CW45/P45. His TP45 has about 350-400 rds through (as he claims), and my Cw45 has about 300 through it. My CW45, Blackhawk holster, 1 mag, and 150 rds of .45 ammo for his TP45 with 2 mags. Seems like a good deal for me (great deal, rather), and what a coincidence to find this guy today, not very far from me looking for what I have. Is it a sign?

You guys looking at CW45s and CT45s ought to look at the current Grabagun prices (in stock plus $5.99 shipping) = $289 and $269 respectively.

Couple of threads on the board about it.

Yeah, I was looking at grabagun yesterday. Great prices on the CT45, and not to mention you can get a free mag from Kahr with their current promotion. a CT45 with 2 mags, shipped for $275, plus another $15 for FFL transfer? That's a great deal, and why I started to consider selling my CW45 to get one. Oh well, I like this TP45 I have now. I can tell the guy never cleaned it (seems to be common around here; no one takes care of their dang guns), but she cleaned up pretty nice. Nothing's loose, everything looks good.

Todo: buy a third mag, night sights, and polish the slide and barrel. :)

That thing looks like it took some viagra.

Which Tanfolios do you have? I've always had a hankerin' for either a Witness, Compact Witness, or both. In steel.

Since open carry is 99.9% banned in Florida, I have no concept of "too small for open carry." What criteria go into that concept, if you don't mind me asking?

I think the TP45/CT45 is a fantastic size, now that I've held one. Not ideal for conceal carry, but here in Kentucky, open carry is quite legal. I mean, I'm not going to open carry every where I go, but there are times I'm in rural areas that I will open carry, and probably have my CM9 on me as well. Criteria for an open carry pistol, for me at least, not too heavy, large caliber, and a minimum of 7 rounds. 1911's fit this bill pretty well, but are a bit heavier than this TP45. The TP45 will also be my night stand home defense gun, so night sights are a must. I did consider a Witness Steel full size in 10mm for my open carry, but worry of over penetration and weight of the pistol turned me away from that, at least for now. Also, I don't care for the wonder steel finish of the Witness steel pistols. I'm sure they polish up nicely, but meh.

Currently, there are three Tanfoglio's in my house. I have a Witness Elite Match 9mm which I'm building out for a USPSA Limited piece, and give USPSA a try. Basically it's my target gun (steel plinking, or paper). Henning fiber optic sights, aluminum base pads on my mags, Hogue rubber grip, and a trigger job (shorter reset, less pre-travel). I'm considering replacing the trigger with a Henning flat trigger, and adding a magwell.
I've also got a Witness Hunter 10mm, which is still stock. Love it, but haven't shot it much. Got it with the thought of a woods gun, or maybe some hunting, but haven't really gotten around to that much. My lady has a Witness Pavona 9m, in light purple (with fancy sparkles in the frame). Shoots nice, and does great for her but it's nothing special.

If I were to open carry, I doubt it would be a Kahr. I'd probably go with my 7 shot .357, 686, a 1911, or a Beretta Cougar in .40, with 11+1 capacity, or possibly one of my 15 round or greater 9mm's. I'm not a fan of open carry, except around my house and acreage.

I would head out right now before finishing this post if I found out there was a T 45 fore sale, and probably buy 2.. I love the look of th T's but I can't leave my favored 45 ACP behind.
