Eli Wallach dead at 98.
(U. of Texas Class of 1936 - B.A. in History)
One of his best characters - a Mexican bandito. Not bad for a Jewish guy from Brooklyn:

He was a veteran, too... from Wikipedia: "Wallach enlisted in the United States Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Army) during World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II) served as staff sergeant in a military hospital in Hawaii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii). He was then sent to Officer Candidate School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Officer_Candidate_School) (OCS) in Abilene, Texas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abilene,_Texas) to train as a medical administrative officer. Commissioned a second lieutenant, he was ordered to Casablanca (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casablanca). Later, when he was serving in France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France), a senior officer noticed his acting career and asked him to create a show for the patients. He and his unit wrote a play called Is This the Army?, which was inspired by Irving Berlin's This Is the Army (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_the_Army). In the comedic play, Wallach and the other mocked Axis dictators, with Wallach portraying Adolf Hitler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler)."

I've been waiting for the perfect next dog of mine to call Tuco. Eli was a great actor and that was one of his finer roles.
