Any issues running semi-jacketed soft point 357 ammo through my S&W Model 19-4? (pictured below). Will the exposed lead give me cleaning issues?

Shouldn't lead at all. It's not Plus P so should all be perfectly fine and dandy.

Shooting 158 grain instead of 125 gr. bullets should go a long way in preventing jet/gas cutting of the lightweight Mod.19's top strap.

Thanks - I've heard that so I only plan to shoot 158 grain 357. Actually I don't plan to shoot this piece much at all but my son will be here for a few days and I thought it might be fun to shoot some 357.

David, shoot .38s through that beast and you will be in love with it.

I shot 357+p+ in my 340 airlite PD & my hand is gone lol. The average shooter will not hurt the model 19's topstrap so don't worry have fun. I only shoot 357 to make sure the gun fires the particular SD round 38's the rest of the time.

Is that the same as 30-06?

Those have always worked fine in my .357's S&W 686, and some Dan Wessons.
No lead left in the barrel that I could see.

Here's a crappy pic. Will take some better ones in daylight soon. Serial number dates to 1979. My dad bought it used around 1980 and never fired it. I inherited it earlier this year.

I carried a model 19 as my duty weapon for the first 11 years on the job. I shot jacketed hollow points, lead wad cutters, semi-wad cutters and full metal jacket ammo through it and never had a problem with any of it. It's a great handgun! Enjoy.

Nice, Is that 19-4 nickle plated and also is that a 5" barrel?

Nickel with 4" barrel. The trigger is nice. Not as heavy as my Ruger SP101 and smooth. The grips are Pachmayr.

There is no such thing as +P or +P+ in .357 Magnum. Those terms apply to .38 Special. ANY .38 Special is safe to use in a .357 Magnum revolver, however, if you shoot a lot of .38s you may find a carbon ring builds up in the cylinder in front of the shorter .38 round that will make chambering a .357 round difficult. You will have to clean it a lot.

Aparrently my earlier attempt at sarcasm pertaining to 357+p+ was misunderstood.

I recommend using the "rolleyes" smiley but even that doesn't work all the time.

David, that is a revolver to be treasured. I was about to say I would take it off your hands, but then I saw it was your Dad's, so i wouldn't even joke about it. Safariliand speedloaders work so smoothly in that, you will love them.

Finally took some time to clean up the 19-4 with Mothers Mag. Still some oxidation on it but looks better. Also put some Hogue grips on that better fit my hand.
