A person on armslist.com has a Bushmaster AR15. With around 200 rounds through it, and wants $650 for the rifle, red dot scope, and a 20 and 30 round mags. What do you think? I like the idea that no paperwork is involved.

Jump on it Tman, I know you want to join me and come over to the dark side....:D....My good friend who I trust and who helpd me look for an AR has a Bushmaster and loves it...He has a bump fire stock on his which simulates full auto and he shot it several times at the range 30 rounds as fast as the bump fire would go without a failure of any kind (Range officer gave the ok before he did it) barrel was really hot and the chamber was smoking afterward....He really likes the rifle and said he has never had a single problem with it of any kind....

If that rifle only has 200 rounds and you get a red dot for that price then I would jump all over it while the getting is good....

Very good price and no paper work? Go for it. It's a good deal. I don't have a Bushmaster but shoot with friends who do. They love 'em.

Thanks for the replies. I've found some new ones for less money, but then you have a paper trail on them, and have to add some kind of sighting system.

He said he had about $800 into it, between the rifle and the red dot sight. Don't know why he is selling it or anything, but he says it's never let him down.
He's out of the state at the moment, but will contact me when he gets back.

Do you know if it is the aluminum or carbon fiber lower receiver? Lots of argument about it. Some say the carbon fiber isn't good but can't find anyone with 1st hand knowledge of why! You know how that goes.

I have a Bushmaster and it has been great. Unless it has changed since I got out of the Marines in 1998, Bushmaster had the military contract for carbines and Colt had the rifle contract. We also carry Bushmaster's at work. I would suspect this is one where the lower is made of carbon fiber. I know those retail for less than $700 new, but I don't know anything else about them. Personally, I would want an aluminum one, but it is probably similar to polymer handguns and just fine.

Bushmaster changed hands & moved since 1998, from what I've read.... and the change was not for the better.

The former owner, after his no-compete clause expired several years ago, re-opened the old Bushie factory in Windham and named his new product after the town.

Again, from what I've read, the Windham AR-15s are better than the current product that are labeled "Bushmaster".

I do not own either brand, nor have I ever handled one, but if considering either one I would do some research first.

Just my unsolicited .02..... keep the change.
