WWII vet and Japanese POW Louis Zamperini has died at the age of 97....Louis was a star track and field athlete in the 1936 Olympic games and had it not been for Jessie Owens being slightly faster Louis would have won the Gold Medal....Zamperini's B-24 Liberator went down in the Pacific and he and two other crew spent 47 days adrift in a raft...One man died in that time and when Louis and the remaining crewman reached an island it was controlled by the Japanese and they were taken prisoner and spent many months in a living hell under their Japanese tormentors....
His remarkable story of survival and forgiveness is captured in the book "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand and will be featured in a movie by the same name to be released this Christmas....This is one of the best books I have ever read and I highly recommend it and hope the movie will be half as good...
We have lost another hero and member of the greatest generation....They don't make people like Louis Zamperini anymore....He will be missed...
