Hi all.
Picked up a CW380 today. Had a 1st gen LCP, but absolutely hated the trigger, and the general feel while shooting it. My big hands just didnt get along with the trigger or trigger guard too well.
Anyway, I sold that some time back, got a Kel-Tec PF9, but still wanted something small for pocket carry.
I had settled on a Bodyguard 380 and was about to buy one when I read about the CW380.

Long story long, Ive really been looking forward to this, but alas, it wasnt meant to be an easy time.
I took it home, cleaned it (I refuse to shoot a new gun without inspecting it and cleaning it), then took it back to the range.
Using Mag-tech ammo, I loaded the magazine with 6 rounds. On the 3rd magazine, I had a hiccup. FTE.
I cleared it, and continued. The mag itself was harder to insert each time I loaded it, although not that noticeable on the 1st and 2nd loading, and would not drop free unless empty or close to it. After that 3rd time though, I took a closer look. When loaded with only 3 rounds, the seam begins to separate on the rear. The more rounds, the worse it gets. If I only load a few, it works fine. Load it full, and it wont run well at all, if it gets past the 1st round.
My best guess is that with 6 rounds, and the split, the pressure caused by the grip/mag well squeezing it affects how the rounds feed from there. Once the first round or two is gone, the issue is somewhat alleviated and things continue normally.
It shot great, when it ran. Like the trigger, and the felt recoil is much less than the LCP, or at least its a lot more comfortable to shoot.

Safe to say Im fairly disappointed. I dont mind a feed issue with regard to a new gun, although my LCP nor my PF9 ever had any issues whatsoever. I do mind getting a gun with faulty parts.
That said, I still think this is the best choice, assuming its a simple mag related issue. Better overall than the LCP (and Kel-tec p-3at), and the Bodyguards trigger is nowhere near as nice. I do need to be able to trust it completely though.

What Im wondering though, is this normal? Arent the mags supposed to be welded the full length on the back side?
Ive been around guns for a good long time now, and cant recall ever seeing a magazine coming apart at the seam so to speak.
Im hoping that a call to Kahr tomorrow will have good results, and that they wont require me to send the gun to them....guess Ill find out.

Thoughts on the magazine? I read there was a re-design, but it seems that was related to something entirely different.

Thanks in advance.

:behindsofa: Since i dont have a 380, i might be talking out my arse. I believe you`ve got a bad mag . The weld in the back is allowing the the feed lips to spread, causing your problems. Contact Kahr for a replacement, they should agree to send one, and if it happens again will probably ask for the gun back then. good luck

Thanks. Im hoping thats all. It ran great when it ran, lol.

I called Kahr yesterday. They are sending a new mag and a return label for the one I have.
I also ordered an extra from Midway. Going to run a box or two through it with both mags to be sure they are both ok, and hopefully confrim it was only mag related issue.

Contact Kahr Customer Service by email with a picture of the split. They will replace the mag/s.

I had a lot of trouble with .45 mags doing that with my PM45... 3 separate instances. Got a new frame and mags the first time, new mags and pistol checked OK the second time, and new mags the third time. I declined to send the pistol in on the third occurrence.

This is the first I've heard of a .380 mag doing that. Kahr may want the pistol, too. Good luck.
