Hello fellow Kahr-talkers!
I was at the range today for the second 100 rounds or so of the break in of my CW40. Everything was going fine until about round 150, where I had a FTF (failure to feed) on the last round of one of my newly purchased 7 round magazines. I chalked it up to the Herters ammo I was using. Well a couple of strings later, I got a FTF with the factory 6-round mag. And then another on the same 7-round mag. I marked the 7 round mag that had the FTF, since I have 2 7-round mags and one 6-round mag.
I've inspected all magazines and none of the followers are damaged. Upon stoppage my technique is: drop the mag, clear the chamber, inserted a new mag and keep firing. The only FTFs I've had were on these same two magazines and it didn't seem to discriminate, I had FTFs with Herters factory 180g loads and my 180g handloads. However, towards the end of the session (last mags with each of the offenders, 180g factory Herters loads) I didn't have any FTFs with these "offending" magazines. I didn't have my usual WWB or Remington ammo with me, only the Herters and my handloads The handloads are loaded with 5.2g Unique BTW. Only 33 rounds were my handloads.
My question is, do I need to polish the **** out of the feed ramp, run more rounds downrange (which I intend to do anyway) or send the pistol back to Kahr? I am really impressed with how this gun handles, including the trigger stroke and the accuracy. I was asked today at the range by a new shooter what my favorite handgun to shoot was, and I was hard pressed to chose. I had with me the Kahr CW40, Glock 22 with a Wilson Combat barrel and Tru-Glo green front sight, Ruger Standard Model (pre-MkI) and Taurus TCP. I told him the Glock because it has gone "bang" every time I've pulled the trigger except once, and since I have fired it over 8,000 times now I thought that's pretty good. The one failure to fire with the Glock was attributed to a bad factory r
The last magazine full I fired with both of the offenders resulted in no FTFs. I am asking the powers wiser than I, do I have anything to worry about? If I am to carry this weapon, my expectation is for it to make noise every time I pull on the bang switch.
I do not intend to stop shooting this CW40, just want to know when I should be able to trust it and all the externals. Right now I'm at 233 rounds total, with 5 FTFs, 3 on one 7-round mag and two on the 6-round mag supplied with the pistol. All FTFs occurred in the last 133 rounds.
Thanks!
