I recently bought a used, (my first) Thompson AO 1911 "Deluxe" at a local gun shop at a good price. The AO014** serial number narrows it down to a birth year of 2002/3, made in Worcester, Ma.. It looks like is has been taken good care of. The AO 1911 has some metal wear, in the usual places, but the slide is still snug along the receiver rail, which is good. The front sight has a white dot, has MH3 written on it, a Trijicon, was wobbly, so I had it peened again, now gtg! :-) The rear sight has two white dots and is solid in the base.
I asked the salesman if he had any military brown composite grips to swap the rubber Thompson grips out with, he did, and the grip change was made. I did change out the recoil spring with a new one from Brownells, a 16lb. I gave it an inspection and cleaned the bbl and other parts good and lubed them. I really like the AO m1911 and the Thompson AO pistols are made in the U.S., so I appreciate that fact. I've owned a new Springfield GI-.45 back 5-6 years ago, but later sold it to a friend. Well, needless to say, I missed the .45. I also have some Glocks in the stable, a 9mm G26 and 22 Gen 3 .40, which I really like. So, I now have 3 calibers, which gives me choices in ammo/pistol selection, which is nice to have. I also bought some Blazer 230 gr brass fodder to feed it. I'll give you all a range report soon. ;)

Well, I finally made it to the local range, and put 10 rds of Blazer 230gr into a B27 target, from abt 18', with one rd at the 7 o'clock on X ring, 5 in the 9 ring, 4 in the 8 ring. All shots within a 6" vertical, 1.5" wide area, not bad. I was going to shoot some more, but was interrupted by a phone call. I will have to go back soon, and shoot it some more. This AO "Deluxe Blue" model from about 2002, has the target sights, but I prefer GI sights. So far, I do like the accuracy of this 1911. Just need more trigger time!
