Looks like I'm relocating to Phoenix.
Seems like a gun friendly and nice place to live.
I've been a Florida boy for 20 years.
But I grew up in the Mojave desert.
And my parents live in Southern Kalifornia.
Wish me luck everybody.

Good luck!
Have family on my wife's side that live in Phoenix. Son spent some time living there before moving back to Connecticut. Personally I like Tucson and Flagstaff (especially Flagstaff) better than Phoenix.

Remember it's a dry heat
Good luck and yes I agree Flagstaff is beautiful as well as Prescott, but work is more plentiful in Phoenix.

Arizona is a gun friendly state. You can obtain a license to carry there and both open carry or concealed carry is legal with certain restrictions without a license. Unlike Kaliforny, there are very few restrictions on what gun you can buy there. High capacity magazines are openly sold there. Except for the summer, the rest of the year is very comfortable for any of the outdoor sports. Even during the summer, you can do outdoor sports providing you take precautions e.g. wear protective clothing and bring bottled water.

Hey, you still have that 4x4 toyota? You can do some off roading there. More terrain than the flatlands of Florida.

Good luck with your move. At least you won't need charcoal to grill steaks -- just put 'em on the hood of your car. ;)

Welcome to Arizona, Your getting here right in time for some of that dry heat:cool: It was 119 degrees on the west coast of Az. yesterday. Bring sunblock and extra ammo there is a lot of desert to go plinking in.

I owned a pickup once that was paid off. I think it was in the late 70's.

My teen age gf would do anything anywhere.
Good times...
I spent a goodly amount of time in Tucson back in the day. Liked it a lot there and it was high on my very short list of places to retire. Good luck on your move.

Looks like I'm relocating to Phoenix.
Congratulations!
In preparation, be sure to join the local forum at arizonashooting.com It takes a while to reach a post count that will allow you to visit the classified section, so start early. http://home.mindspring.com/~justsomeguy/thumbsup.gif
Since we live in the Tucson area and never bother to visit Phoenix, the only advice I can offer about finding a place to live is "talk to some upscale realtors." You may not buy a home from them, but they can help identify the better parts of the city. Yes, as I understand it, there are some troubled areas. There is a large LEO contingent on arizonashooting.com and some of the general section postings will help you gain familiarity with the possible challenges and rewards.
We are just about past peak temperatures and moving into "the monsoon season" which will offer some relief from the warmth. The good news is that early morning temperatures are always comfortable and air conditioning is plentiful.
Yeah, you are in for a treat. We moved here while I was still working so that we could become part of the community before getting too old. Our adventure included building a house after our first hurried choice provided some unanticipated disappointments, so take your time getting situated.
This might be a good time to start looking for a made in Arizona, Ruger 1911 . . . http://home.mindspring.com/~justsomeguy/icon_lol.gif

Barth, congrats on your move. I lived in Tucson for awhile in the 80's and loved it. Watch out for Phoenix though, I hear it can get a might dusty from time to time!!

Sometimes a change in scenery is just what the Dr. ordered. Good luck Barth. Are you taking all of your barrels with you?

Good luck, Barth. I hope the move works for you. There's some interesting country out there, but it does get HOT! Of course, it's "dry heat". :2rolleyes:

Thanks everybody.
Driving out in about a week.
Did lose all my guns in a freak boating accident.
So I'll have to pick up some new weapons when I get there.
I'm very excited.
$95K + $10K signing bonus.
I had paid non stop air, hotel and town car transportation for the interview.
There was a driver with a sign with my name in it at the airport.
Felt like a movie star.

That sounds good, Barth. You should be able to buy some replacements for your lost guns. You might think about a lighter colored truck, too. Black absorbs all of the heat! My wife and I only buy white vehicles... the most reflective!

My 44 is a S&W Mountain Gun.
Other than that the picture is scary accurate.
I do have an extra large 45 though.
