My buddy got a place waaaay north in Bear Country and Moose so now I just "had to have " a rifle to play with when visiting. I do have a Glock 20 but this seems cool! Just had action done at Ahlman's, test fired it and slamms ya pretty good as well as bull's eye at 100 yards.

Nice! I'm guessing in 45/70 (I'm a fan (http://i40.tinypic.com/o6jklw.jpg):))

Yup 45-70 Marlin and I threw my Trijicon 1-4 Acupoint on it. You know you have shot it...:86: shooting 405 grains.

I'm a 45/70 fan myself. They definitely let you know if you have a misfire. The little Marlins are pretty aggressive on the shoulder. Damn nice looking rifle.

My brother-in law has a TC contender with a 45/70 barrel. First handgun that ever made me bleed. Congrats on the new toy. She looks sweet. Got an old 30-30 Marlin myself

Great rifle. Enjoy. Mine's a little smaller. 35rem. I'll just go for the smaller bears. :D

Hmmm....
My old pal Bob Bush used to convert .45/70 Ruger #3's to 45/120 Sharps, which also would accept any of the shorter cases right on down to the 45/70.
I'm not sure of the relationship of his gunsmith and Huntington Die Specialites, but Huntington ended up doing some load work for him, getting a 300g bullet to head out at close to fps using BELL brass. In their letter to Bob they said the rifle would take more, but their shoulders wouldn't so they stopped at that load! Thats in the range of 4000+ ft/lbs of engery in a 7lb rifle. Ouch.

That would be a hurting gun for sure. There was a time I would relished something like that, not so much anymore.

The Ruger No.3 in 45/70 was a brute to shoot with just factory loads. I had made up some loads that were fairly hot with a 500 grain bullet for use in mine. We would take that little Ruger along on week end trips out near the Salton Sea. It was pretty much a right of passage for any newbie to shoot that thing; I don't remember anybody asking to do it again (we were mostly all young Marines at the time). I miss those times a lot more than I miss that rifle.
Ruger No. 3 (not mine):

Nice set up for that. I was always interested in a 444 Marlin Outfitter for here in Texas. As usual, I was too slow getting one and they are rarely available now.

I'm another 45-70 fan, having a Marlin 1895 and a T/C Contender barrel in that caliber. The Marlin is the standard rifle with a pad - nothing too difficult. The Contender is another story. 5 shots and I had a blood blister in the web of my hand. It's great fun.

Before long we're going to need to create a 45-70 owner's sub forum....I'm sure eventually Kahr will build a pocket pistol that will chamber that right?
EDIT: I forgot about this: http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firearms/Magnum-Research-4570-Revolver-75-inch-Barrel.asp
No exactly a pocket pistol, but it is a handgun in 45-70...

i've got 1895 guide gun that i love. i think unless u r early 20s and work out every day u might have a few to many rounds in that carrier. if they r full power factory loads u probaly r going to stop long before u empty the carrier.
