Bit of a tale of woe and a heads up to anyone buying a used Kahr, or whatever semi-auto. I bought a PM9 lightly used on August 1. Kicked the tires and drove it around the block, liked it so much, when I found a used P9 at a reasonable price, I grabbed it.
The fellow had it listed at FL Gun Trader and lives 300 miles north of me. We went round about meeting half way and all, I would have had to wait until Tuesday, he wanted to move on it Saturday.
So I offered him another fifty bucks if he drove down last night and he agreed. Nice young fellow, told me he was the original owner, maybe 250 rounds down range, and it looked good, with the exception that one of the 3 magazines looked well used.
He had a long drive ahead of him, a precursory look at it and I paid him. I should have broken it down before I finalized the deal. Once I did I saw the peening, felt the end play. It does have a little bit. Not a lot, but any is too much. Anyhow, I may have to send it to Kahr and see if their famed customer service extends to replacing the barrel for free. The slide doesn't look bad.
I did a bunch of forum searches and discovered the barrel peening issues, more well known with the PM series. Found some great info in a post by CjB and knew I was up the creek. Anyway ....... moral of the story is, always check the top extra carefully. I should have seen it without disassembling it but ....... like they used to say in the ironworker's union, if you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.
