View Full Version : A PM9 .... P9 .... and a P380 and my problem with all of them

Funny thing about Kahr's pistols. I have large hands and long fingers. I can get my mitts around a Glock or a Browning Hi Power with no problem. A shooting buddy of mine can't hardly reach the trigger on those. My fingers are so long that when I follow through with that long pull on the Kahrs my forefinger rubs the inside of the trigger guard and within a few rounds, between the rubbing and the recoil, the skin is gone and it goes downhill from there. I sanded the inside mold release seam on the trigger guard, smoothed them out as much as possible on all three, but it still bites me. My solution is to bring tape to the range with me and wrap my finger before shooting. The other day, picked up a used 2003 PM9 in great shape and forgot the tape. Here is the herd. I also have an MK40 with the all steel frame and that gets my finger too. Life can be hard sometimes. :)

You need a different manufacturer. You're welcome.

LOL ...... I have quite a few from different mfgs, but I really like Kahrs. Like I say ..... sometimes life can be hard. :)

I'm wondering if you couldn't heat the trigger guard with a heat gun and reshape it to give your finger a bit more clearance.

Thanks, that is a good idea, but I wouldn't want to take a chance on messing it up. Even if I got it right for me, I could never resell the gun if I ever wanted to. The taped finger isn't that big a deal. If I'm carrying the PM9, or the P380, and have to use it in a self defense scenario, I won't notice the finger abrasion until it is all over.

I have big hands and long fingers. On my PM9, the trigger hits my finger in a different spot than any of my other pistols. The problem wasn't rubbing the skin off, but that kept me from pulling my shots down and left. I use the first part of my finger inside my first knuckle on the trigger of the PM9. It seems weird to me, but it works well. Might be worth a shot, or a few magazines, for you to try.

If i use the part of my finger it looks like you are, to get the trigger all the way back to fire, that end pad of my finger was pulling more sideways than back. My knees hit the seat in front in economy and shower nozzles in hotels are too low. I would complain if bigger, taller folks weren't seen as leaders and average higher pay. :)

Well, I want you to be happy, but not at the expense of some skin.

I have the exact same problem with my MK40 and my solution is the same as yours - a piece of whatever tape is available. Last time it was duct tape.
I am also of the same opinion as you - if the SHTF, the abrasion won't be noticed until after the fact. I'm sticking with the Kahr.

If you are willing to violate all "so called" rules of finger placement on the trigger, if your finger is as long as mine you can put it all the way through and pull with the pad between the first and second knuckle, pull straight back, and hit what you aim at. The unfortunate part is then you might get a pinch on top of the finger from the trigger then. It works very well for me though.

Thanks for the tip. I am not sure whether I've tried that or not. Naturally I've tried different placement on the trigger, but I'm not sure if I went that far. I'll give it a go next time I take it down to the range and report back if it works for me.
