There has been a lot of LEO bashing here lately. While the woman that is being helped is far from one of us and is probably an antigunner due to the peace sign and pet pal bumper stickers, she needed help and guess who was there to help her?
I hope she steps away from the Micky Ds for awhile and slows down when putting food in her pie hole--it looks like she does neither of those things though.

Pretty quick thinking. I think I would have gloved up before touching that myself. Probably walked through a car wash asap afterwards too.

A lot of LEO bashing? Could you be more specific?

The militarization of the police force seems to be a hot topic here lately. Bashing might have been a strong word.

I never met a cop that I didn't like. Not even the cops who gave me the traffic citations that I so richly deserved. I always knew that they put on the uniform to protect and serve and I back them 100%. The are no less worthy of respect that the men I served with in the military.

I don't think bashing is too strong a word at all.

I'm with muggsy...LEO's deserve our respect.

Yet there are two topics that warrant our scrutiny and discussion. I don't consider that bashing:

1) the militarization of our local police forces...putting them in the position to invent reasons to use (justify) those expensive SWAT tools ... and ...
2) the profiteering of or local police forces (something I don't recall us talking about much). That municipal policeman parked along the interstate, handing out speeding tickets, is doing nothing to protect and serve his community other than raising money.

I just watched the video. (I was busy scarfing a Big Mac). Good job to that officer. Showers are easy enough to come by.

I'm on board with this on both counts. Sadly much of my job involves the processing of the second. Sadly most communities want a top notch police force but they don't want to pay for it. Also you have brass like our Chief who want all the best stuff and lots of officers and crap we don't need. So give him money and he blows it.

But I don't think a Police organization should be a for profit set up either. They really shouldn't have to spend any time concerned with income. They of course have to work within a budget but ticket quota's and make money stuff should not be necessary.

Our city utilities department is FAT. Lots of trucks and equipment and the best of everything, lots of guys. They get their money from utility taxes, etc. PD gets budget from the general fund. A huge chunk of the general fund but they have to fight for it.

I also hate the use it or lose it budget concept. Buy stuff just to burn the money, not allowed to set it aside for future needs.

It's IMO the militarized police. The pics in Iraq and of our police could be interchangeable. We are not the enemy. Snipers in ferguson , m4s in use etc does not give one a Comfortable feeling.

I don't look at LEO s having some super integrity over others that they would do more than what a good citizen would as well.

I with others on 2 occasions have done CPR on victims of auto and motorcycle accidents.

We we special to stop and help? A lot of good citizens will as well ; at least where I live

Much Respect. Although I get very nervous when they dress up like they are in Kandahar. I read elsewhere she blew through a red-light, that's why the pull-over.

I hope I am not one of the bashers because I criticized the militarization of some police departments. I have also stated that I have the utmost respect of our local LEOs. If I should accidentally speed or run a stop light and I get pulled over by an armored vehicle with a load of camo dressed police with fully automatic weapons and a sniper on top of the vehicle that respect might wane a little. One of the great things about our country is the separation of our military and police forces. If we combine them we will have the SS. Bottom line: if a little criticizing is bashing, then so be it.

I personally don't consider your thoughts bashing at all.

Of late it quite popular for officer to wear like a load bearing vest, ours are black but all the gear mostly hangs on the vest instead of the belt. Having worn a tool belt for many years it's a strain on the back big time.
But I'm not fond of the look or the image. It doesn't look professional for a patrol type officer.
We have one Sgt that wears the vest and his duty gun in a drop leg holster for the same reason.
If I was chief I wouldn't allow it.

Even though I'm the armorer if it was up to me the AR's would all go and they'd have shotguns and Winchester 30-30's. Not M4's with double 30 round mags in the mag well.

I guess you could say I agree with you on this one.

Think Adam 12. Reid and Malloy only with auto's. That's what a patrol officer should look like.

Going to be WAS very shortly. Just saw our fearless leader say it has to stop. "It is against our traditions." Really! I just hope he doesn't have to draw a red line. Period.

How happy would you be if a bunch of rioting looters came into your business, stole everything you had and burned the building. In a riot situation I don't want to see a cop only armed with a baton and a handgun. Don't behave like a mongol hoard and the police won't dress for the occasion. If they're there to save my life and fortune I want the police armed to the teeth.

I would like to live in an area where the local police force feels that attire is totally adequate.

I would think a 12 gauge in the patrol car would be enough. Call SWAT in if it's not.
