Not sure if I'm using the correct part name, but anyone seen this before?

I was cleaning this up after testing it, prior to selling it (already sold my other, newer one) and noticed the missing chunk. Not sure how it didn't lock up with that piece gone.
Anyway, since this is 2 years out of warranty, I was wondering about other's experiences with Kahr's shop fees. Just doing numbers in my head, it seems likely I'd come out money ahead just parting out the rest of the pistol rather than paying for shipping and shop fees. Any related experiences would be appreciated.

That doesn't look too good. Id give them a call and see what they say. They may fix it if you just tell them about it. If not it would require a new frame and like you say it ay be best to part it out.
Keep us posted if you decide to part it out.

Give Kahr a call. Give 'em a chance. They may surprise you. In my business,, manufacturers keep a little extra$$ in warranty reserve for oddball issues and customer goodwill. Good luck.

I'd definitely contact Kahr and send them a picture. If you are the original owner they may replace the frame at little or no cost even though it's out of warranty. I'm sure that they won't want those pictures floating around on the internet and it's good for customer relations to keep loyal owners happy.

I've seen it on someone else's Kahr, not on the two I've owned. I doubt it's common, though, and definitely something that needs addressing. Call Kahr up. They're usually very responsive.

Sent the pictures and they said they'd treat it as a warranty frame replacement, leaving me the shipping and FFL fees since it will have a new serial number.

Take it to your local dealer, preferably where you bought it. Have them send it for you, they can send it cheaper than you can. Also they might give you a break on the FFL fee since with the new SN it can't come to your house anyhow.

That's the plan. The last time I asked them to ship something for me to another FFL, they didn't want to touch it. As this is warranty work for something I bought from them, I'm hoping they'll see it differently.

I'd expect your FFL to help out under these circumstances. If not I'd consider looking for another LGS to frequent. Overall....really good news. Glad Kahr came thru for you.

Called by the factory - they're changing out the entire pistol, including the slide. It was the old blunt nosed slide - I guess there's a difference between the current frames and the ones for the blunt nose version. LGS charged me $35 to send it back and to redo the paperwork when the new one arrives. I was worried that it was going to be a lot worse.

That's not bad really. No avoiding the gun shop, Kahr couldn't send you the new gun without the shop doing the transfer. Around here 35 is about the going rate for just transfer paperwork so overall not too shabby.

My PM9 is there right now with the EXACT same problem. See, "PM9 Frame broken" in this forum. How long did they take to do this?
I got an automated response that the gun is received and "in the queue" for repair.
Weird how mine broke also on the right hand side, and in EXACTLY the same place.......design issue? Hope not.

oh my NEVER call a blunt nose PMJ9 and "old blunt nose". Best gun kahgr ever made IMO. The frame on the new pm9 to my knowledge is the same as the blunt nose. I suspect theynormally will replace the entire gun, for reasons only kahr knows. Just sayin
My badf, I just realized ur kahr is a 40 cal and not a 9mm. . Pretty sure the frames are the same though. sorry aboutthat.

I've been on the forum for a little over 4.5 years and in that time I've only seen two instances where a front rail has broken like that. There have been another couple of instances where front rails were damaged/significantly worn and it's possible I may have missed seeing some as well. Still, I'd be inclined to suspect glitches in production or individual pieces rather than a design issue.

Greg

Ditto for me, in fact this is the first that I recall where the rail actually broke off. Seen em beat up some but never to the breaking point.

I don't have it back yet, but Kahr called me within a week of me dropping it off at the LGS.

Great to hear that. I really like that pistol. Mine got there last wednesday. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll have it by next weekend. :D

Got it back yesterday - the only thing original that returned was the mag. It even came in a different/larger case. Put a box of fmj through it today - ran fine - thank you Kahr!

Good to hear they hooked you up, somethings just happen in production maybe hardening issue slight alignment problem who knows what caused it.. but they did right by replacing it rather than trying to place the blame on inproper lube and or ammo related and try to charge you...
