Yea, it's pink. Ruger and Cabela's called it Raspberry. It was $100 off the regular Cabela's price, then there was another $10 off for joining their txt program. I could resist, I suppose, if I had to, but I did not.

First trip to the range tonight. Here's my initial review.

I purchased two boxes of Herter's 95gr 380 ACP ammo with the gun. It shot a bit low and right. Here's the first 5 rounds:

This is not good. Generally I can hold the repair center at 25 yards, but these mouse guns are difficult.

Here's the next five:

Here are ten with my most recent reload experiment:

* The accuracy is not as good as the Taurus PT738TCP or the Kahr CW380. This may improve over time.
* The trigger is not as good as the TCP or CW380. It is heavier and creepier than the TCP and CW380.
* The Ruger LCP left me with a sore trigger finger, much the same as the SCCY.
* I do not like that it does not lock open after the last round.
* Functionality was very good with the Herter's ammo as well as with some reloads I was testing.
edit next day to add two things I missed in my notes:
* There were two failures to feed my reloads. These were at rounds 50 and 60, and the slide was about 1/4" (6mm) open with the round nearly chambered.
* I could not get a magazine to stay in the gun if the slide was closed, only 5 rounds in the magazine. I found this annoying since the slide lock is so small.

Bottom line - Well worth the $219 sale price.

Bonus - It is pink. My wife's comment was that should the worst ever happen and I had to draw the Ruger I would never have to fire a shot... because my assailant would die laughing at my pink gun.

I'll have a set of chronygraph results in Ammunition soon.

GREAT REPORT!
Very funny at the end, this is a 5-7 yard self defense gun, 25 yards and I'm surprised you did that well!
Great Price!

you need one of these now! :)

You are working with a gun that probably is best shot accurately at 3-5 yds. Unload the gun and recheck the unload, and have her practice drawing and dry firing until she feels ready for the range. Keep her working with it and you will find her accuracy and confidence will improve. Malfunction drills are a must with all guns, but especially small semi autos. Get some dummy rounds to randomly load in her magazines.

With that hot pink, if she drops it in a mud puddle it will be easy to find.

You can always throw it at your assailant......................................... ...

When you shoot a pink gun you must hold it with your pinky finger extended as if you were sipping a cup of tea. Your accuracy will improve markedly.

pbagley,
Excellent report on your new Ruger, thanks for time/effort involved and for sharing it with us.http://www.pic4ever.com/images/13.gif
It was interesting to read that it left you with a sore finger as yours is the version with the "improved" trigger.
Regards,
Greg

I put Galloway trigger, recoil spring and stainless guide rod in my LCP and it is fantastic shooter.

I like it! That little .380 would make a nice BUG and a primary if for some reason it had to be pressed into service.

Thanks for all the comments. I really appreciate all of you.

I found that I had omitted two items from my notes and added them to the review in post 1.

dude your first group was killer... spot on, just off the target... how far out was you shooting?? the LCP does require getting used to the trigger especially if you've been shooting a kahr... I really like my LCP and even more now that I put hogue complete grip and 14# wolff springs.....

on your reloads remember mixed brass, etc... not the gun but probably the load was light

btw looks like you got the updated version with better trigger and higher sights, you have no dash in your serial number is how I could tell right away....

pink aside I bet you'll end up loving this gun, virtually weightless....

Thanks for the comment. Answers:

All groups were shot at 25 yards. The first group had three hitting the metal rail (two inside and one outside). The group size is good, possibly the best of the day with the mouse guns. The other two mouse guns shot a little right with this ammo, but not like the Ruger.

I shoot at 25 yards because that is what the range was made for. If I have the place to myself I can shoot from closer ranges, but then you can't find your brass in the tall grass. Being a reloader, I like to find my brass. With the 380's I found 98% last trip, and it was the TCP tossing things farthest. The CW is pretty consistent about brass placement, much like my bullseye gun. LCP is wild like the TCP, but keeps things closer.

The reload I tried was about .1 below maximum for AutoComp powder. I was using Blazer Brass cases. I rarely use mixed cases, except in the .38sp where it does not seem to make a difference. In .380 I find the extreme spread (velocity) to be large with this powder, and I think it has to do with not generating the pressure needed to get consistent combustion. In contrast, the extreme Spread with AutoComp in the .40S&W is minimal, but pressures are much higher.

LCP and TCP are near the same weight. I like the TCP better for the trigger and last round lock back features. The weight of the CW380 is close to the others, but seems heavier for some reason. Perhaps it just looks more substantial. As you said, there is a lot to love about a mouse gun. Even if it is pink. I like all three.

25yds., BaWahahahahaha. furgitaboutit! put the trigger kit in it, your finger will thank you. pink .380's is only good for one thing- as the badguy is about to jump you, you fish that thing out of your pocket holster and give him 2 fast ones right in the nuts, then, backing up, give him the rest higher up, you never used the sights. look at a Colt New Agent with the trough down the slide, no sights to snag, no sights to slow you down, just draw and bang. Cabella's is showing some Buffalo Bore .380 +P, 100 gr. flat nose (hardcast lead flat nose= HFN). "Oh, please mister don't shoot me with that pink gun, I be's an embarrassment to the hole neighborhood."

25 yards! Color me pink with respect. That's a far piece with a mouse gun.
Frankly I thought the barrel might be bent but at 25 yards those are bragging rights targets.

I don't do that well with larger guns.

I hand load also, went to indoor range and had my LCP with me and cranked out 250rds, only able to collect 71 as the LCP was shooting them out front right... anyway now with the wolff spring it doesn't launch them, but I don't shoot indoors anymore so really doesn't matter... other then the tall brass...

I use mixed brass and have never had a problem, I load 9mm for .12 rd.... 380 even cheaper then that but I haven't figured those numbers yet, I load 40 as well need to calculate the savings there also...

I like the TCP trigger but that's about it. if you only shoot the ruger for a while you'll get used to the trigger

Correcting myself on the weight issue. The LCP is lighter according to the specifications.
- LCP: 9.4 oz
- TCP: 10.2 oz.
- CW380: 10.2 oz. w/o magazine

I was wrong. The TCP is apparently heavier than the LCP.

apparently I got an airlight version :) Mine weighs 8.8oz with empty mag, but according to rugers specs and others that have personally weighed them its 9.4...
I swear my scale is dead on and calibrated, but perhaps I'll recheck that
