Looking for some references to a good, cheap (if I could use that in same sentence) chrony...
Don't want to spend a ton and basically looking for something that works without major bells and whistles, more of an entry level model....
Never had one and would like to compare my various loads....
Which do you have or recommend and how much will it set me back??
sure I could google but I'm looking for trial and error opinions from you guys...
thanks !!
Try a "Chrony" Beta model....they are relatively inexpensive and be added on to. Example, a remote control so you can read out from the bench, also a small printer, for a permanent record of all shot strings. Should be around $100.00 or so.....go to Midway USA on line or just call them.

I bought a Shooting Chrony when they first came out - only $60 IIRC. It is very very basic. One speed shown at a time. That is all. A friend used a 30-30 sabot(.223) round on it and the dent is still there, but the unit continues to work well after all these years. The card stock guides are getting a little chewed around the edges. One of these days I need to clean all the bullet lube off the screen, otherwise it is fine for what I need. A rare case of an inexpensive product exceeding my expectations.

I have the F-1 Chrony that uses the cabled bench control head .... basically has an on-off switch and displays velocity. I carry printed sheets to log the velocities and take various notes, then run the velocities through a simple spreadsheet to calc the ES, SD, Ave, Mv, etc. The Chronograph data sheets are then stapled to the load data sheets as well as the target (or 8-1/2x11 copy of the target).
The Chrony brand seems to be adequate for my needs, and in the $125 range.
10-4 on the Chrony.....mine has the the function of both Extreme Spread & Standard Deviation built in, just can't recall the model. I had added the printer and the remote features, along with the protect plexiglass to protect the screen.
I had a friend who was using it chronographing his loads from his black powder Sharps 45-90 and killed my shade screens........Doahhhhhh........but that was easily replaced, otherwise the unit is tough as woodpecker lips.

the shades aren't really necessary unless the sun is 20° +/- from zenith (straight over head) .... high noon local time. Beyond that, they have absolutely zero effect!
