Just wanting to ask the crowd of CM45 owners, so how's everyone's gun running? Have you done any tweaks?
I think I hit 300 rounds today and mine seems to be settling into its groove. Ran well today too. Took a little more breakin than my other kahrs which only took about 100 rounds. Seems like it likes to run well lubed at this time also. Did do some polishing, mag and ejector things. Anyone else?
I think you'll find that the 9's and 40's and 45's break in slightly differenly.
We could do the calculation regarding the conservation of momentum vs spring weight.... I don't think that is required.
I think one way to think of it is to shoot full house ammo vs bargain basement ammo for "breaking in".
The recoil spring is made so it "becomes" the spring it outght to be. Holding the slide back does almost nothing to help the spring mature. Instead, vigorous action, the more vigorous the better, is needed to get that recoil spring just the way it needs to be.
Its not beyond imagination that the .45 will need just a bit more.

Yeah the double recoil spring in the CM is a good bit stiffer than my single coil cw45 spring was. Of course the cw45 probably has 1000 rounds through it now and is slicker than snot on a doorknob.
There is huge difference between my barely fired PM45 and my well used PM45. Its not that one is worn out, but more like... worn in. I feel very confident with WWB and other "target" ammo on the well used one. The barely fired PM45..... I'm sticking to full house ammo for the time being. I sort of hold that one in reserve anyway, and carry that used one... daily. Its really getting some character from the pocket wear.
Just shoot some stiff ammo in it. What you spend on hot loads will be made up by the pistols ability to handle most anything sooner.

Mine has run 100% since new, as far as functioning and firing goes.
I had to do some stoning and polishing in the beginning here and there. Like the barrel hood to allow hand ejection of live rounds.
My only issue is getting brass to the face. I tried a shorter extractor pin to see if it would change the BTF problem but it didn't really help, and then I had one not extract, so I put the stock pin back in.
I loaded up 100 more 200gr LSWC reloads and upped my charge of Bullseye .3gr to 4.8 to see if a bit hotter load changes things. I have not been back to the range to try any yet though. I got to have around 300 through mine too but have been shooting my Sig Tac-ops some too out of the same ammo box so not sure of exact round counts.
I really like the little gun! Hopefully the BTF issue will work its way out of it as the break-in continues.
How is yours doing as far as BTF yqtszhj?

I'm ashamed to admit I haven't even fired mine yet. It's been sitting here for about 2 months now, I suppose I'd better get to breaking it in. I just haven't been as excited about it as I was my first one. Have been doing a bunch of other things and haven't been down to the range. Part of it is one of the doors doesn't lock on my Explorer that I'm driving until I get my transmission in my car fixed. So, I don't want to do anything except go to the range and then back home, and usually when I go into the city, I like to get a few different things done. And that means leaving one or two guns in the a case, usually locked in the trunk of the car while I run get a few things here and there. It's been pretty hot here too, and that doesn't motivate me much to get out in the heat. The Explorer's A/C doesn't work near as well as it used too, so that doesn't help.
On a more positive note, I noticed one of the small towns I live near has a new gun store. Will have to check that out soon. Maybe they do transfers cheap. Or cheap enough that the saving the gas to run into the city will make it up. Heck, they might have a good price on something I been looking for.

The brass to face has about cleared up. It mostly goes over my head or to 5 o'clock now. I had the common .45 mag issue of fail to feed because the follower was hanging up on the mag release. Sanded the follower a bit and that fixed that. Polished the barrel and breach face to ease in feeding and cleaning so it feeds real good. It likes to run wet for now but I think my cw45 was the same way if I remember.
I went another route to help the ejecting a live round issue. The ejector was about 3/16 inch longer than my cw45 so I buzzed about 3/32 off the end. Seems like that maybe helped the BTF thing too. Plus it was chewing up my brass some before I shortened the ejector a tad. Now it doesn't do that. I'm happy, happy, happy. My free mag came in too. SWEET!

So did you just grind a flatter/blunt surface on the tip? Or did you try to keep all the stock angles?

Looks like this. My cw45 is like this also only shorter. I figured if I messed it up for $20 I could get another one and put it back like it was.

Thanks for info and pic.
I May have to try stoning a little off and see what happens if it keeps up the BTF. I have done some re-shaping before of my P12 1911 ejector for the same reason and it seemed to help it.
I had brass dotting my forehead thing going on for the first two boxes of ball ammo on a PM45....but it settled down after that and really shucks the brass over ones right shoulder. That model is a little hand cannon.

Yeah, Im really liking mine. Son wanted a cw45 and I may let him use/have mine if the cm45 keeps chugging along.
Ditto on the brass dot. When the spring is new, and tight, you get flyback brass. Work through that, soften up the spring, shoot heavy loads, and you'll get nice over the shoulder or to the side ejection.

Good advice right there. Shoot it like you stole it.

Must be a Kahr 45 thing with brass to the face. My CT45 does that every so often....more than my CW9 or CW380

Just got my CM45 this week. I've had a CM40 for a year or so with mixed results. My CM45 runs great on ball (about 300 rounds so far-2 FTF). However, it really is finicky on JHP rounds. The rounds that perform very good are: Doubletap, Federal 165 gr Hydra-Shok, Hornady Critical Defense. I choose the Federal as a carry round as it is low recoil and my CM45 loves it.

Good for you. I like some of the federal myself.
