This post has no purpose other than to say I'm starting to enjoy my SP101 3 inch.

That's a good purpose in and of itself.
Nice gun. I have the 22 version for my wife to play with. Nice.

That's a good looking SP101 you have there DavidR.
I like a 3" barrel on small/medium frame revolvers, but I've no complaints with the 4.25" tube on my SP101:

Since getting a GP100, the SP itch has started. I'm thinking snubbie, so it's easier to carry, otherwise why bother.

How are the triggers on yours????????????????????? I have only had the opportunity to handle 2 of them(didn't shoot) and on one, the trigger seemed a tad gritty. They were both new. Not a knock on the firearm, just curious....................

The SS 3" SP-101 is a keeper. My wife's favorite handgun. The GP-100 ain't bad either. ;)

If you like it now you will love it after you had a spring kit and stoning done to it......soooooo smooooth. had it done to my .357 mag GP100 and I can hit all day long double action like never before.....try it you'll like it even more. It was worth double what I paid for the work at a local gun shop.

Long, hard and gritty - at least compared to Kahr.
I probably have 100 rounds through it and some dry firing and it seems to be getting smoother, or I'm getting used to it. Honestly, I don't shoot it very well in DA mode. I have trouble with such a long pull.
Try that stoning of the sear and trigger job....it really changes everything.

That's a great suggestion. I need to find someone in West Palm Beach I can trust.

I bought this for my dad earlier this year for home defense. He hated snubbies but could no longer handle his S&W Model 19-4. The 3 inch SP101 seemed like a good compromise.

My GP is old, I bought it used, and the trigger is very smooth. Single action is crisp like it should be. Not S&W machine precise, but quite good. I think shooting it a lot will smooth it out, no need to take it apart.
Try Shoot Straight, I believe they have a armorer and or gun smith on location, that's who did mine in Lakeland.

I was comparing the triggers with my speed six, and my speed six was a lot smoother..........still long, but smoother, no grit...............still, with a bit of smoothing, sp101's could be real good. It's just, justifying the cost versus the cost of the firearm.......................
Cost was minimal. I believe it cost between $50.00-$60.00 but it now feels like a well tuned machine, match grade type feel to it. I liked it so well I brought a few others over for a similar make over.

I'm in West Palm, but don't stone anything. There are two things to do with your Ruger.
1. Dry fire the prunes out of it. That will smooth things up perfectly. You can add just a little drag to the cylinder with your finger while pulling the trigger double action. Do that for 100 cycles, then another 100 or 200 in double action. It'll be smooth. All Rugers are that way, except the Vaqueros which seem to get a little TLC at the factory.
2. Use your thumb behind the hammer to add a little extra tension as you release single action. Do that 100 times or so. Voila, great smooth as glass trigger. Rugers mostly go that way too!
If you really need to fix it up AFTER that.... PM me.

+1. I agree with the stoners... the spring kit makes the trigger pull lighter and the stoning/trigger job makes everything smooth as butter. Definitely worth doing.

Bought mine new in 1993 - great little wheelie:

Still don't know why I can't post my pics here any more - every time I click on the "insert image" button, the page fades to a semi-white and nothing works except to go back.

I don't know what the issue is with the "insert image" thing, but as a work around if you'll paste your link with this code ( IE your link ) the image will show here.

They do.
But I prefer the gunsmith at Shoot Straight - 3909 N. US Hwy. 301

Ask for Ben, tell him Barth sent you - LOL!
Ben has done lots of handgun work for me and it's always outstanding.
I do like a 3" 357 revolver.
Mine is a S&W 65-3 3" Heavy Barrel K Frame.
It looks very much like this sample:

I've followed your advice. It does feel smoother. Hope to get to Shoot Straight to put some rounds through it this week. I need more DAO practice.

Wish they had a plain ol' Patridge type ramp for that instead of the greenie technoweenie up front.
I really like my SP101. Some Ruger collector is gonna go gaga over it because of the low number and its long discontinued first run grips. And it still works great, is smooth as can be. Twice and thrice weekly it got dry fired several hundred times for damn near ten years. I think it has less than a few hundred rounds actually down the spout.

Barth, I love that 65! the 3" barrel allows that full length ejector which is so much better.
Folks needa get a look at that link! We have, in that link, a talented indivitual, who also has a brain. Why the brain? Obviously, he has a set of what appears to be Etalon dial calipers. Might be the Brown & Sharp version (still made by Etalon). Basically the cream of the crop. Nice!
Wow, he did a magnificent job on the Patridge sight. Somehow, I think he had the ability to make one from scratch, but found the challenge of reworking one the greater reward. I'd be in that club!
Thanks for the linky!

my 1993 model 3 inch da/sa SP101 was bought 4 years ago and almost instantly became a "favorite". Now, it is my #1 all time favorite handgun - hands down.

Mine looks sweeter that that one - LOL.
Stainless trigger and hammer.
And the trigger is pure butter.
She's a shooter too...
