I received another "Banned IP Address" again today. The fix is fairly easy but a PITA - I reset my modem which usually generates a new IP address.
I have been a member of several forums and Kahrtalk is the only one where I have this problem. Does Kahrtalk have a particular problem with nasty folks that need IP addresses banned or are the guidelines maybe a little to strict?

Will have to wait for Justin or John on that question. Way over my head.

I will say, that sometimes, when I was running a BBS, I'd ban IP's or groups thereof. Groups mostly from China, Eastern Europe, Italy, USA Universities, and S.A., in that order. Every once in a while, an ISP would have a pool of public IP addresses, some jerk would get banned on that IP, and some poor unlucky and undeserving bloke would get banned the next time he logged on and happened to get luck of the draw on that banned IP from the pool. That happened a lot with universities, and I could give a crap about the slopeheads and knuckle noses and the rest of the ilk trying to hack in and flood my servers.... too bad if the innocent got flushed with the turds so sez I.

In case I was not clear enough - foreigners? who cares! Students and Joe Schmoe's from the USA, I'd fix it.

All IPs are verifiable and locatable to within their last major point of routing, ie, where they get on the ISP's sort of local network to its local customers. I could verify not the exact city, but within a decent range. That is, most S.Florida traffic goes through Miami, even though its south of here by a ways. Then Orlando, Tampa and Atlanta are big IP routing hubs.... after that... dunno.

Hey David,

We did have some issues a while back with lots and lots of spammers causing issues. Most of them were coming from a wide range of IP addresses, all within a certain span, for instance 69.120.155.XXX so we just banned that whole block. Unfortunately some people who do need to access the forum occasionally catch an IP in that range.

When you get blocked, shoot me a PM with the IP that was blocked and I'll fix it so it doesn't happen anymore. Unfortunately we still need to know when it happens as we can't just remove all of our blocks. Because of past issues, we have whole countries blocked, so at times it does get a little heavy handed, but for a while we had more spammers than actual members and something had to be done.

Sounds good to me. I will shoot off a reply to the banned IP message using the admin link included.
Will you be able to tell from my reply what the IP address is? If not, how do I find the addresses to send to you?
