Hi

I recently sold my CM9 and regret it terribly. I I was going to buy another but was also considering a CM40. I know the kick of the .40 cal is more extreme but my G27 has been punishing me for years.

Does the CM40 hit harder than the G27 In felt recoil. ?

The only reason I'd opt for the CM40 over the CM9 would be because I get my ammo from my employer for free.

I have a 27 and don't feel the recoil people always talk about... after shooting say a full size 9mm all day or even a 19 then jump over to my 27, yeah I know I have an explosion going off but I can follow up shots with it as easy as any other gun I own in every caliber...

If you get your ammo for free its a no brainer...

I had a 27 for awhile and didn't find it uncomfortable to shoot at all. That being said, in the CM series I would opt for the 9. Actually I think the 45 is out now on the shelves, that of course would be my first choice, I like the 45 over the 40 by a mile.

But give your menu I'd select the 9. To me the 40 is just too slow in the followup shot department. It's not painful, nothing brutal but lots of muzzle flip.

Free ammo could save you enough money to buy a 9mm later with the savings and then you would have both. Unless your free ammo is both 40 and 9mm too, plus any other cal, like 45.

Personally, I like shooting .40, but.............not out of that particular firearm, but if I got free ammo, I would learn to like it...............really like it...................

I agree with Bawanna in that I would prefer the 9 in CM series. There are plenty of people that will trade you 9mm ammo for .40 all day.

That reminds me, I need to pick up a CM45, been waiting at the gun store all week. And I can drop by the transmission place and see what they found out. My extended warranty I bought, is refusing to pay until they find out what caused the tranny to go out. So I had to have it hauled from the Mercedes dealer to a Transmission shop, since the dealer doesn't do transmission tear downs and diagnostics. The insurance co. just want to weasel out of paying, by saying it was a pre-existing condition. Hell, the car has over 100K miles on it, everything that goes out could be called pre-existing. I loathe insurance companies. My argument is I put the 1000 miles on it that was required before the warranty went into effect, along with a 30 day waiting period, and I made it through both of those requirements before it went out. They are trying the pre-existing crap because I only put 30 more miles past the 1000 miles, and then the tranny went into what Mercedes calls "limp home" mode, with 2nd gear and reverse the only gears you have. Well, sorry but it's been nice biking weather. And the trip I took to put the 1000 miles on the car kind of got me tired of it and wanting to ride in this nice cooler weather we've been having. It was driving fine, than sat a couple weeks, and then went into this limp home mode when I went to drive it.

Normally I would recommend the CM9 but FREE ammo trumps that. Go for it. I truly agree with bbone that you will get used to the recoil.

I have absolutely no need for a CM45 yet I really want one. :o

Good luck with that Mercedes. I had tranny issues before but that was in Vegas...just sayin'.

I have both the PM9 and CM40. The 40 has more recoil and slower on follow up shots but the extra power makes me carry it more. Just as quick on 1st shot. My .40 is really accurate with 165 gr Hornaday C.D. and recoil not bad. Velocity out of the short barrel runs around 1050 fps. Try to rent or try a friends if you can.

Port the fokker kand enjoy ur cm40 alot more. It is a true hand cannon, no doubt. U don't need a drink mixer after shooting a cm40, just put the ice in the glass and hand it to you and u will shake it up great. Just sasyin

Well I made it home with the CM45. Once in awhile it pays to have small hands, as I can get all my fingers on the grip inside the magazine baseplate. I think I am really going to like this pistol. It sure feels good in my hand. I didn't get a chance to get to the range, as I had other business to take care of while I was in town, and had to come home and feed the animals and myself. I did get the paperwork emailed for the free mag so we'll see how long that takes to arrive.

I'm a 40 kind of guy all the way. But either one ( 9 or 40) sounds like it will do you fine. If you practice a lot and are carrying it when you need it , you'll be glad you had the 40. Perhaps a 40 is not for everyone, but I know a few gals who shoot the 40 as their primary carry and in IDPA....so I laugh when I hear folks say the 40 is too much to handle or slow on follow ups. I reload nice puffy loads for the 40 that make it a real joy to shoot. You will adapt to the 40 very, very quickly and if you truly get free ammo for it, that is huge.

When it comes to handguns, I have become a believer in the more rounds theory rather than the one-shot stop theory, so normally I would say go with the 9mm and the higher capacity. However, free ammo (and therefore more practice) trumps carrying only one or two rounds extra. I have never shot a CM40 but even in a compact or full size gun my follow up shots are slower with a .40.
